I've not really had that experience ... but I'm been in a conversation with someone ... turned around and walked away and totally forget what they just said. That's happened to be lots of times.

On cats - Felis Domestica is a misnomer. Cats have yet to be domesticated.
One should be generous with a cat. Remember it is better to give than to receive. Ask any cat on the receiving end.
The cat's greatest gift to an owner is that it lends you its presence. That should be more than enough.
Cats are no bother at all. As long as you feed them right, let them sleep in your bed, scratch their back at their convenience, give them enough room on the living room couch, play with them when they want to, talk to them at length, and spend every waking hour with them.
One of my fav cats at the shelter is named Raven, a tortishell who has long conversations with whomever is talking to her. She doesn't do simple mews or meows, but it sounds like shes forming sentences, like mews tagged together. Its totally awsome to have a convo with her, even tho I have no idea what shes saying lol.
I'm sure some people who never owned pets look at us like "why are you guys talking to them? its not like you understand them?" Maybe not, but its fun to "hear" their views on life
