But look where all that revolutionary rhetoric got the countries that actually did go communist(France included).

It's one thing to talk about égalité, fraternité, liberté, etc. And it's fairly easy to stir up people to revolution.
But when such revolutions actually occur, all you ever get afterwards is an enormous dictatorship and an economy that doesn't work at all.

Personally I have no faith in ideological mass movements of any kind. I prefer grassroots enterprise and local capitalism.

And with that in mind, yes I think that nations should indeed prefer their own citizens for aid and jobs. Otherwise all nations will be drawn down to a "least common denominator".

There is always going to be injustice no matter how things are organized. It's better if the injustice works toward strengthening the local economy rather than weakening it.

A nation with a healthy economy can do good things for the world.
A nation that opens itself up to be pillaged will not be able to do any good. It will find itself torn apart.

It's one thing to cry out for "liberté, égalité, fraternité," and to stir people up to violence against a corrupt government.

But once the dust settles, all that remains is an enormous extremely inefficient bureaucracy and a dead economy.

The "dictatorship of the proletariat" makes everybody into a proletariat. (except leaders of the winning party, of course. They are the new aristocracy.
Once in place, socialism is nothing but feudalism in drab disguise.

In the anonymity of a big socialist economy, every single bureaucrat has his hand in the kitty.
They begin to think it's part of the job.

In a one-pot system the pot is always empty.

And with that knowledge in mind, yes, I think that nations should indeed prefer their own citizens over immigrants for aid.

Not out of racial or ethnic preference but just because it keeps things local, prevents devastating migrations and works against the "one-pot" system than never ever works.

You're better off keeping your tomato, and your independence.

Europe would open you up to mass immigration by the poorest workers and would hurt your economy more than it helps.

In a few years they'd have two families living in your tomato with you.
