I saw the movie. The passengers didn't feed on the bodies until it was the last resort. When in that position you need to think of those back home who are hoping you will be rescued. You don't do it for yourself - you do it for those that love you.
I would have done it but I will admit, it would have been difficult
vinny1967: Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, also known less formally as the Andes flight disaster, was an airline flight carrying 45 people that crashed in the Andes on October 13, 1972. The event was concluded by December 23, 1972, when the last of 16 survivors were rescued. More than a quarter of the passengers died in the crash and several survivors of the initial impact had died of cold and injuries by the next day.
The remaining survivors had very little food and no way to make heat in the harsh climate, over 10,000 feet altitude. Faced with starvation the survivors eventually fed on the dead passengers who were preserved in the snow. Rescue teams were not aware of the survivors until 72 days after the crash when Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa, after a 12 day trek across the treacherous Andes mountains, found a Chilean huaso who guided them to safety where help was found for the other survivors still trapped at the crash site.
This story always fascinated me. What would you have done in this situation. Would you have fed on the Dead bodies to survive ?

Yes SB it was as a last resort as it should have been, and I would imagine it would be very hard as well......
It could not have been easy and I wonder sometimes if the people look back in regret.........
Well, seriously speaking, in such an emergency (and bearing in mind that I'm vegetarian) I would've at least chosen the very best cuts from the more attractive bodies of the dead female passengers (no offence intended).

Lucky my son wasn't on that plane -he's a vegetarian.
Anyway Vinny if that fascinates you - look up case law- in the UK there was a famous decision on cannibalism when 4 sailors were stranded on a dingy after their boat sank. Google this.
Back in the US an expedition in Colorado in the mid 1800's ran out of food and ate each other - Alfred Packer
Later when the the food reached new lows at the University of Colorado student cafetaria - the kids got together and renamed it - Alfred Packer Cafetaria
I believe it was in 1845, the ship of the British Sir John Franklin and his crew got stuck in the ice on Beechey island in the Canadian Arctic. Little by little they all died off. Some of the skeletal remains that were found in 1981 showed that the bones of the extremities were literally hacked into. It was found on future scientific excavations there that not only did these men die from lead poisoning(found on the lids of their food cans)but also from scurvy, tuberculosis, pneumonia and cannabalism of diseased shipmates.
