On a summer day 32 years ago, Chuck took Barb for his bride.
"Our marriage has lasted a long time, I tell her this, not because of me but in spite of me really," Chuck Wiener said Friday.
Those vows of marriage mention a few things. Richer or poorer, better or worse, in sickness and in health.
Chuck and Barb have done the first two and this week, visited that final promise.
"I'm diabetic and had kidney issues a long time," Chuck said.
Chuck was facing dialysis or a kidney transplant. That's when Barb announced it would be her.
"I prayed until my knees were raw to be the one," Barb said.
"I figured there was no chance she would match up, so go ahead and get tested, sure enough she matched," Chuck said.
It's not unheard of for spouse's to match but, it's not the norm. The U of M medical center says they have done 183 spouse transplants in the last 20 years.
Yesterday Chuck and Barb became 184, a happy, early Valentine's Day for Chuck.
"I don't need a card or candy for Valentine's I got mine," Chuck said.
