I used to do aerial photography out of a small plane with no door on my side. The pilot would tilt my side of the plane down almost so the door opening was directly under me. I did not even have a parachute. But it wouldn't matter anyway because we were too low for it to have time to open in any case.
I did wear a seat belt. But it wasn't like in a car. It was loose and didn’t snap together well. It was always falling apart. I didn't really need the seat belt to hold me in place thought, when the pilot tilted my side of the plane down he also turned in a circle so I was held in place by the centripetal force. It was still an exhilarating experience though.
I think that being distracted by everything I had to do to get good photographs kind of helped to take my mind off the gravity of my situation.
