Sommerauer71: Hi Smoky

Thank goodness for her brother, who noticed.

I have a big problem with buckets, my son as a two year old put a Lego bucket on his head, swung his head back and the bucket fell back and the handle was against his throat.

Since that day, I went took all the handles off buckets, you know the ones, very colourful, with handles that hold stuff, for kids, the offending handles are yellow, more often than not.

I am pleased that she is well, scary eh?

Yes! Without the brother there I would not have even known - lost in reading the newspaper ... an absorbing article about one skier who died because his ski-jacket did not have that little thingy in it that the detectors could locate him! And right behind my back was my own personal drama being played out! (we were sitting dotted around the kitchen)all munching peacefully......uh oh

That bucket handle story sounds horrible! I got another small ankle-biter grandson - will tell his parents to watch out for that! Thanks for that tip Sommer!wine

kidatheart: I'm very happy to hear all turned out well Smoky.

I've taken first aid/CPR courses quite a few times, and the Heimlich Manouvre was only taught in one of them. The courses are mandatory in a few of the places I've worked. Some places you may be the only one there for a hundred miles in any direction, and no phone/radio reception. It's been a few years, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to brush up.
Fortunately I've never had to perform any serious first aid, but it's a good thing to know. Hi Greentassles
wave Oh hi Kidatheart, nice to see you still around!

Yes, those courses are good things to do. I remember one doctor telling us that "no-one is dead unless a doctor says they`re dead"!... you just keep on keeping on - AIR, and heart massage, and Stop the Bleeding!cheers

My son also found a dog biscuit on the floor once, and thought he would try it. Nice choking attack.

My ex husband is good at being calm in these situations and I was grateful he was there, same when he had a febrile convulsion, it was awful.

I certainly realised when mine were little how dangerous such simple objects can be to little ones.

I will have to remember all of these when I have grandchildren too.
