I feel for you, I'm pretty much in the same situation. Granholm is mostly responsible (she's done nothing but mess up Michigan since she weaseled her way into office) but the current state of things, gas prices included, aren't exactly conducive to economic growth.

Granholm said In 5 years we'd be blown away! She was right! We are!

Seriously, I cant see how this state will survive much longer. It's sad!

By the way, finding a job here is like finding a good date, its not easy and the fields are not plentiful!sigh

The man's name is Engler............like above posted, he gave away Michigan's surplus money for favors...

Kept him in office entirely too long...

As far as Granholm goes, she's an awful choice. Not only is she an "ex-republican", whatever that means,

she is also Canadian..

Hang in there. I've been a tech for 20 years and had a hard time finding work in the field. I lucked out a couple of years ago and found a good job working in IT for a large mid Michigan company. Other than that, there's nothing but a few jobs in lower Michigan and a lot of competition for them. I don't want to live down there and took other jobs to stay here. The jobs are there if you look hard but you have to be in the right place at the right time.

why does it matter where she was born? you can't balme the economy on her hertiage. engler started the ball rolling yes but you can't fix all the problems that were left by the prior adminsrtration. rep or dem? who cares as long as the job is done correctly. you can't blame everything on one party or another, we all may agree with issues on both sides of the party platform.

michigan needs jobs, not auto jobs, jobs that can't be outsourced.
auto workers are paid a huge wage, and great benefits but few of them work hard for that amount of money they bring home. the ceo's and higher ups need to take huge pay cuts ........

when a man without nothing but a high school diploma can make 20+ dollars an hour plus full healthcare and benefit package for being a press operator... who can honestly say they did not see this employment drought coming.

Engler stayed in office long enough to "give away and pillage the surplus" any thoughts on "Where is he now?"public or private sector?

Granholm had a state legislative branch that did everything within their power to defeat squash and sabotages her plan ( granted it was a weak plan) ..but here I 'd like to inject this thought just as so many are Blaming Bush for the nations mistakes lets remember neither our state or the nations state is a monarchy we should hold all those politicians that are their to protect our interests more accountable then Granholm or Bush.

Sadly as i'm sure we all will admit more sacrifice will be required of us ..yes that means higher prices less wages and more taxes Oh yeah that alos means less freedoms and rights too

welcome to the comprehension of a lesson known as cause and effect.

electing a Canadian to do an American job is just asinine. Too many differences in our countries. Engler did mess up big time. You know the ceo's won't give up what they have already been given.

Why is milk 3.40 a gallon? Coming from a cow's teats? Cow juice for heaven's sakedoh Look at the taxes in Canada. The prices are outragious BUT they have socialized medicine. IF she can do that for us, then I wouldn't mind as much. I don't have insurance, so I go to a people's clinic to get my medications. I have to get there about 4 am and wait until they open at 8am just to get in. Not even leaving there until well after 12 pm. There are so very many people screwed in Michigan, it's not even funny.

As I have said in a previous comment in another forum thread, Michigan will be going through a long and painful transition to a more healthy and stable economy.

I agree with the guy who said that the price of gasoline is a killer. However, that is helping other states catch up with our sad economic state. Everything that gets delivered is heavily affected by this. And do not forget that while we are paying $3.50 and up for a gallon of gas, diesel gas prices are well over $4.00 a gallon, or were the last time I looked.

Somebody brought up a few politicians' names, but let us not forget that these characters are all well-paid-for and well-taken-care-of figureheads for the hidden oligarchy of the very rich that is running this country. Does anyone have a clue why else we would not have a better choice of politicians for major offices? I will probably have to vote "no" again, meaning anyone but them.

Might I also suggest that the billions of dollars a day we are spending in MidEast wars are billions that could be spent more efficiently here in the US and in Michigan.

Yes, prncss, Canada's prices and taxes are outrageous. That may be partly why they send their garbage over here.

I am truly sorry for your lack of insurance, prncss. We really NEED more than we have in this country, but as for socialized medicine, I do not know about Canada, but other countries with this have reported long waiting periods for treatment as well, even for more serious conditions, requiring hospitalization and surgery.

Sorry for the soapbox. It's been a long time since I vented like this. Give me the boot if you don't agree.

I just hope that hiring more police and troopers aren't in preparation for putting down riots, and controlling the general population as opposed to the criminal population. Things could get worse before they get better.

I am going to get totally bashed for this I know!

But ONE of the ones to blame are the Unions.

The Unions eventually screwed us over because of this:

Demanding high wages for unskilled labor. For example, the unskilled assembly line workers making $10 more per hour than other non- uskilled workers when the unskilled union workers are doing less work for their money than the non union workers are doing for their money.

If we could keep this up forever that would have been great!
But how long do you think it would take for corporation execs. to see the untapped resources south of the border who would be extatic to work for 2 tortillas per hour?
The wage bubble was going to burst sometime....
