I have a Susuki Jimny, 2000 reg and I want to replace the radio in it but I don't understand which wires are the 'speaker' ones. Can anyone help me please. Also how can I get a 'live' wire from the battery through the bulkhead so I can attach it to my amp.
Thanks.....
cheers

Speaker wires are usually black or red, but now always. In a more advanced, expensive system there may be white and red speaker connections similar to those on a 3 pin TV scart lead.

Follow the route of the wiring from the engine bay to the cabin, use a stiff fish-wire to get through. You can get a wire out in either footwell, or behind the radio slot, whatever suits.

Without actually seeing the jeep and the system, it's pretty hard to say more than that. One of the motor factors in town that sell car accessories usually has a lad who knows about radios there. Could be worth your while driving up and asking him to take a look.

Thanks Dantes, there is a place near me but the lad who may know about radios is not always there. As for the wiring colours you suggested, they are all connected to a little 'block' and the wires are hard to see. I did think about going from the actual speakers back to that block but they're right under the dash beside the door and I'm not that agile these days. I shall try and contact the lad I mentioned first though and thanks again for your suggestions.

cheers

You can buy a converter that fits into that little black block in the car to match it up with your new stereo assuming we're not talking about an old AM radio. What make is the stereo.

It will look something like this. Check out your local car accessory shop.

There are often 2 live feeds nowadays. One that is always on to keep the memory programmed and another that only comes on with the ignition.

Of course, but he mentioned an "amp", which requires it's own seperate power supply. The adapters you mentioned are grand, that's what I use.

The red and white connections are for extra speakers, I assume if he has an amp he has extra speakers? dunno Too hard to say without seeing the system. Some of them, like the full face radios, can be a real pig.

Brings back memories of cutting holes in door cards and back parcel shelves as a kid to fit 4 ohm speakers. Then Audioline started doing some more powerful stuff and bigger speakers. Happy days.grin

Sorry Godsgift pressed the wrong button, story of my life :-)
Yes I am waiting for the 'harness' for the radio now, mine's a sony CD player but the speaker wires on it are seperate from the ones in the 'block as there are only two speakers in the motor I shall have to wire them outside of it.
Thanks for the help.

cheers
