In the Green Garden

~~~{In the Green Garden}~~~
In the green garden I walked alone, and heard a morning dove...
Past the rose bush I wandered, wondering, dreaming of true love.
Through the labyrinth of hedges tall, that formed above my head,
Past the fountains filled with petals fallen from the roses blood red.
All around that delightful place, I paced as one asleep might do...
Praying to the Goddess that my foolish mortal dreams come true.
Unselfish in my spirit, I have given of my very self to those in need,
Now, in the sacred places I roam, of which in past times I did read.
Unto the very bosom of the Mother have I come, a child lost in time!
To still waters that sparkle with the sun near forests tall, sublime.
Where shall I wander in search of her, the maiden I dream of still?
If only her face I could behold, then gone forever be winter's chill!
How many gardens have I seen, how many wonders witnessed I?
How oft so near to Heaven did I stand, only to just come that nigh!
In whose arms shall my paradise be found, in what warm embrace?
If only I could hear her voice at last, if only I could behold her face!
Where is the maiden that I seek, for the Mother's comfort passes...
As time goes on and loneliness descends always upon the masses!
I am one crusader of the light, in search of a light more brilliant yet,
I have walked 'neath moon and 'neath the sun, without any regret.
My hand grows cold; who shall warm it with her touch I do wonder,
Whilst my feet journey onward, knowing not the way ever yonder?
Past masters have not known the truths that I have come to feel,
For I have mastered truths within, and seen beyond the inner seal.
Who shall know me as of old, and share the throne that lies vacant,
At the side of mine own, near where the roses cast their fair scent?
I watch them fade, weeping, and I curse the burdens of this world,
That make any soul a solitary wanderer, a sailor with sails unfurled!
My craft sets sail and none there are to see with me the setting sun,
Against the rosy sky of afternoon, whilst soon another day is begun.
So many islands in the ocean and so many ports at which I must call,
They bore me with their earthly splendors, for I have seen them all.
Only a maiden's sparkling eyes, can warm the cold of these waters,
Who shall show me this glory now, who among all Man's daughters?
In the green garden, I shall pray as no mortal has prayed before...
Again, I prepare to set out on the sea; I dare to hope, once more!
About this poem:
Love is a journey, and intense yearning can take one to many places both strange and familiar. Here is one tiny aspect of my own journey, which once took me to the Green Garden. Let me take you there now, as well.
