Kangaroo in the Room

There's a kangaroo in the room
He's not doing anything but standing resolute
He's keeping us from speaking to each other
But keeping us entertained, balancing out the male and the female, not communicating
Nothing here is awkward
Nor does it feel rather strange
Our subconscious focus seems not on him but something else undefined
Staring defiant, at the wall
He is taking up the void in the space left by you and I
We don't even glare at one another out of the corner of our eyes
Keeping us from what really matters
All the unspoken lies

About this poem:
Woke up 3 times this morning (6-11-11) just to write poetry. I think it's an addiction LOL

Ever have that kind of relationship where you both, in different ways, are lying to the other, but once the relationship is over, and you've both mostly moved on, you still refuse to tell the other, the truth? No awkwardness between you two, just that proverbial animal keeping that feeling at bay.
