When you were little the fish would bite all the time Why didn't you leave some for me daddy? You used to tell me stories of catching 100 fish in an hour Why didn't you just catch 25 and leave the rest for me? Why do you vilify Mr. Potter But then you act like him by taking all the panfish? You say this is wonderful weather for fishing I look at my bobber and it lays still for hours This you call a wonderful fishing trip?

About this poem:
Mixing a parody I saw on Saturday Night Live about the movie It's A Wonderful Life. In the movie Mr. Potter never gets punished for stealing the 8,000 dollars from absent-minded Uncle Billy. In another SNL parody, Dana Carvey playing George Bailey gets a mob together to beat up Mr. Potter. "I don't want the money, I want a piece of you!"
Ahhh, when I was a little kid--I spent most of my time in NJ creeks fishing. I caught all kinds of fish! Then one time, my father invited me to go fishing with him in Toms River. We caught nothing but the brunt of his impatience. From that day forward~~I fish alone.
SundaySilence, thanks for your comment. I haven't fished all this year as I too have been tired of my dad's mean words, but I am bored to tears fishing alone and he knows all the good spots.

There is special spot where my dad would go in a lonely place over the mountains not yet explored.Gratefully we never seemed to have a problem with a catch.Hopefully next will be fun-tastic as always
Hi, mcradloff, Why didn't you just catch 25 and leave the rest for me? Thanks for reminding me to think about the legacy we leave behind (and, through our over-indulgence, the fish we don't).
mcradoff, I only went fishing with my dad once. My dad , his friend n me , (only 16) went sea fishing on friends small boat, the adults got drunk, fell asleep , we had to get rescued by the coast guard as we were against the leg of an oil rig, Never again ! That would of been a funny sketch on SNL
gnj4u, thanks for your comment. I get national geographic and in an issue they had pictures of fish catches from the 1930s to the present. The fish were the size of the men in the picture in the 1930s, and barely five pounds in the present.

Wow Mac you just msde me want to gear up myself for the trip. It's my most favorite hobby. Specially in Lassen park and up by trinity Thanks
TheKoreanGhost, thanks for your comment. I have never been out at sea, that would be neat, but the trip you had would have been less pleasant. The biggest body of water I've fished in was a lake in northern Wisconsin.
this brings so many fond memories macrad...I've spent many a years and lake fishing...looking forward to a bit of fishing this summer...this time I don't have a boat to clean and wash after the fun is over...should be great...
windyweatherly, I haven't fished since 2011, but I never caught anything. The fishing here is pretty pathetic. I'm glad you have some fish to catch around Australia.
orinetalkoru, thanks for your comment. I am glad that there is good fishing if you live in the south pacific, must be all the cold water from Antarctica. I have never been on a body of water bigger than a few miles across, good for you!
