Parodies

I can feel the heat of the fire
and stand naked beside it.
I feel the cold loneliness
but do not clothe.

I have seen the beauty of the Gods
and gazed- enchanted by it.
I can feel it turn my heat to stone
but do not look look away.

I have known the splendor of the stars
and romanced beneath them.
I hear the approaching thunder
yet take no shelter.

I have plundered many temples
and pursed their treasures.
I am wretched and penniless
at the prospect of my loss.

I have fought bravely
in the most difficult of battles.
I cower, shamefully,
in the face of regret.

I have met with many cruelties
and beared no malice.
I despise my own compassion
and forgiveness.

I threw myself into solitude
and found tranquility.
I stand alone in the forest
and find my self lost.
