WELCOME HOME
Author: Unknown
I've been a lot of places,
I did not want to go.
I've been forced to learn some things,
I did not want to know.
I've watched a lot of friends die,
while I stood helplessly.
Hearing the steel hornet sing,
knowing one was seeking me.
I thought I was doing my duty,
like so many had before.
Risking all for God and country,
upon some distant shore.
Baby Killer some have called me,
and since then I've heard worse.
Instead of coming back heroes,
we're still living under a curse.
But someday when I reach heaven,
where I won't have to stand alone.
I know I'll hear my Savior say,
"Stand easy, troop. Welcome home".

About this poem:
It's about all who served in the "Green Hell".
Written because it needs to be said and to instill hope in other "'Nam" era vets.
