Dear Human

Dissipating,
Disappearing,
One by one
You forbid our existence
You wipe us out
As if you own the right
To decide our fate
We mean no harm
We came in peace
You took our lands
We did nothing
You took our food
We did nothing
You took our babies for trophy’s
We did nothing
Now, you take our horns
Our lives
And still
We do nothing
We lie, lifeless
Hopeless
With our babies
By our side,
Sniffing our bleeding faces
Waiting for us to wake up
We will never wake up
We are dead
We are dying
You are killing us
Our horns heal you say?
Your bullets kill
Your hearts are damaged
You minds infected
Deeper than any horn could ever heal
You murderers
You sick bastards
Do you not see
The pain,
The suffering
The cold blood pouring?
Do you not see
The damage?
The deterioration?
The depression?
Do you not see
Us?
What we are,
What we contribute?
We are big
We are bold
Yet, we remain powerless
At the mercy of your triggers
At the mercy of your conscience
Kill us
Carry on if you please
We will do nothing
We will simply die
We will return to the very roots of our existence
But you,
Dear human
You will suffer
You will beg
You will plead
For mercy to be shed upon your soul
And by God
I pray it is never granted
Enjoy the landscape
Wonder at the horizon
Marvel at the African plains
For soon it will be without us
Your children will never see us
Our children will never see us again
Live with that
And we will die with that
For our humble souls
Are greater than your evil ways
Good people,
Stop them
Please
So that we may roam in peace
Without fear
Without death
Stop them
Please
So that we may live on
Share our plains
Share our earth in harmony
Stop them
Please
So that we can just be
All we want
Is to just be
Just be
Left alone
Left alone to mercy of our creator
Our nature
His will
Not your weapons
I beg you
Please
Stop them.
Yours faithfully,
Rhino

About this poem:
I wrote thispoem in 2011 when the rhino poaching started to esculate dramatically. I feel VERY stongly about nature and was purely inspired by first hand breeding experience with these magic beasts.

Your poem speaks for itself, the passion you have for these poor creatures. I felt the earnest plea and emotions in this. I really enjoyed your soulful poem here Lovechild. Welcome to the corner : )
