I Envy Her
among these successful
professionals
so cool and at ease
She thinks I don't see her
the way she looks at you
so intimate
so familiar
when she thinks I'm not looking
I wonder if she knows
that I have known all along
who she is
Has she any clue how much
I need you
and will never let you go
She is even more beautiful
than my imagination
painted
Night after night
as I lay alone in bed
picturing her with you
Everyone wants to be next
to her
Auditioning for her attention
She could have any one of them
and yet it is you that she wants
I picture her calendar
cluttered with important memos
Wednesday morning meeting
Client luncheon at 1:00
Johnson report due Thursday
Manicure at 4:00
Where, among these memos,
would I find your name
Her life is full
exciting
meaningful
She has everything
I ever wanted
everything I'll never have
She has your love
She has you.

Female intuition - that inbuilt radar system which men can never fathom, or aspire to. Of course, just because the cool professional won this battle doesn't necessarily mean she will win the war.
