let me lay my hands upon your face and look at you

oh how the weary tread
taking each step as if the one before hurt and the next one will not get any better
taking each breath as if the one before nearly killed them and the next they will surely die

holding onto their sorrows
afraid to let go because they fear losing a piece of themselves
afraid to let go because they feel that without them they will be alone

always looking over their shoulder
never looking beside them
never looking ahead of them

why won't you let me embrace you
does your heart beating not excite you
does your spirit flying not entice you
does the thought of me not scare you

i will only look over my shoulder
to learn from the errors of my being
i will only look over my shoulder
to remember the moments that made me who i am
i will only look over my shoulder
because someone whispered in my ear

i will always look beside me
watching you looking away
yearning for you look at me
i am here now
why can you not see me
please turn around

i will always look ahead of me
seeing my hand in yours
looking into your eyes
embracing you
exciting you
enticing you
scaring you

please look ahead of you
or we will walk alone
