Your God

Your god

Not a man-made creation
That implies existence

Perhaps a man-made concept

What kind of God, what kind of God?

Show me one
Who possesses fire in his right hand
And lightning in his left

Where is your eternal God
And why am I so unworthy
To speak
Or hold communion with?

Did he create me in such complexity
To solve his infinite riddles
and discern
with my power of reason
the difference between Him
and millenial history?!

Why must I believe
In that which I cannot prove

If faith is so important
Then why so many faiths?
Where were we meant to draw the line?

"I do not believe"
Is such a complex thing, itself
In the Christian God?
In the Jewish God?
In the Muslim God?
Your pick

The One Single God
As if they could be the same
Should one exist
If somehow only one
If somehow it could be proven
Just one, none more
But who could really say?

On the premise of faith
You take your pick
And somehow discredit
One, against the other

'In Yahweh, I have found faith..'
But not in Allah, I wonder why?
How do you determine your faith
To One God, against the Many God's Lie?

I marvel at your dedication
I am confounded by your complicity
I cringe at the thought
That your Universal God
Might accept your blind faith
And somehow not me

Here in my dark and painful reality
I am injured and wanting and free
To chose faith and complacence
To any God that I might
But none have presented
And even I should resent it
This 'Devil' that so well
you have known-
Yet now he doesn't chase me

About this poem:
I spent a good portion of my life believing what I was told to believe.

Someone help me find the truth?

I will believe in the God who speaks with me.
I will not hold court with riddles and history.
If I am to believe in a God, it will be the Living God.
It will be one concerned with my existence.
It will not be an ancient sovereign who is beyond my reach.
It will be He who Cares and Touches my Soul,
Not the cold and isolated, distant Father of the sinful Church.

I AM WORTH KNOWING-

Wouldn't it be nice if we all had the answers.. *sigh* so many times, I believe and then something bad happens.. and I say.. no way.. What kind of God?? etc etc... But then I am told... "This is where faith comes in" So all I can do and say for now.. is My God is an awesome God... and someday.... although we do not have the understanding right now.. there is a purpose.. we just cannot fathom it right now.. but for all I have been through, and all of my favoutite people that I have lost in this life.. I have to think that HE has a purpose and a reason... and another one of my sayings that helps me when I am really down.. "Turn pain into purpose"..

now this poem / comment thread is really what it's all about, i think. People speaking of what they believe, or disbelieve...no matter, just talking it out. This is good stuff. Barrel Of Art stirred the spiritual pot and all the steam and scents and secrets come rising out of the pot for everyone to savor...hmmm...makes me hunger for more....next...

Dear Barrell,
This so called poem was flat out mockery to all who believe in God..not just christians.So..let me ask you,who do you think created you?.Who do you think makes the stars come out at night, and the sun rise each morning? I have nothing against you, but I am just sorry that you will treat God the way you have. You know..there truly are many bad examples of so called good believer's. But there are also true good and loving ones from all across the globe, that dont mind bowing down and humbling themselves to admit they cant do it all on their own.God is not santa clause..he doesn't have to give us all that we ask. And we should even be glad for somethings he does not answer.God loves you anyway..weather or not you love him, take good care my friend,JGwave

Barrellofart
Hello again, JG

I am happy the we might discourse on such a readily divided topic, without profanity, and direct subterfuge.

Dear Barrell,
This so called poem was flat out mockery to all who believe in God..not just christians.

Mockery, I don't know. Unacceptable, yes, perhaps, to the belief of God. But you must consider, in my very last comments, I do not deny the possibility of God, but welcome and URGE is presence in my life. Surely, there is something to that?

So..let me ask you,who do you think created you?.Who do you think makes the stars come out at night, and the sun rise each morning?

I cannot suggest more than I can prove. The stars are on a course, bound by the nature of their existence. I know not how the System came to be, but that it is, and that it follows such a path. The path is provable, the divine maker is not.

I have nothing against you, but I am just sorry that you will treat God the way you have. You know..there truly are many bad examples of so called good believer's. But there are also true good and loving ones from all across the globe, that dont mind bowing down and humbling themselves to admit they cant do it all on their own.

And if you might see, so also there are many willing atheists who should be happy to know a God who presents himself in proper manner, not through ancient riddles. Just because a person claims not to know a God does not mean they are unwilling- Simply, they are unsatisfied.

God is not santa clause..he doesn't have to give us all that we ask. And we should even be glad for somethings he does not answer.God loves you anyway..weather or not you love him, take good care my friend,JG

Again, JG, I thank you for your commentary. I do not wish to anger you, or fight aimlessly. I wish for your friendship, perhaps even camaraderie, and to someday know what truth you might know.

But, until then, I cannot accept on what grounds your faith is situated, and we may be, hopefully, until then, politely disagreeable.
laura139
Just know that we are accepted for who we are, where we are, and how we are..that is the beauty, we each have our own personal relationship and noone can say anything good, bad, or indifferent, because its only between you and him and forget the
opinions of man...for all of us it will be one day that we are judged, our choice is free will, and there is the indwelling of only one--not your words or mine...angel
NeverEndingStory
There is not a day goes past when there is no religious junk posted through my door or someone stopping me in the town. Sometimes you are kept at your door trying to be polite. Now I just tell them to p#ss off.
Why can't these people who chose to be manipulated just leave us who don't want it alone. Keep their preaching to themselves and just fight between themselves like they normally do.

Amen!!!!

Hi, Barrel of Art,
To replace "laugh" (seeming to make fun of) with "marvel" (which does not judge as good or bad) seems to convey the ultimate message of your thought-provoking poem. I often ponder about the possibility that we create our own reality...that whatever we can visualize will ultimately be - otherwise known as faith. John Lennon's Imagine lyrics always come to mind. Thank you for opening up the conversation.
agoodguy2have
and a great dialog was had by all! Just look at all the "reads" and "comments" and know that we're ziggin' and zaggin' and tackin' the ship of humanity in the right direction...how can we not be hopeful?

An incredibly romantic portrait, but I think you might very well be missing my point- I do not have evidence of a sentient higher power. What you call 'The Infinite One', I don't even call 'Any One'.

I do see life,
I do see animals,
I do see things for for themselves are intelligent and sentient,
But I have never heard the voice of God,
Nor seen his hand perform great works,
Nor have I felt him in my soul.

The thought that, it simply must be a faith based thing, that you can't ever really physically prove that a God exists- That really means a lot to me.

Countless religions and personal faiths have been built on the concept of God, and of many different Gods at that. Regardless of whether you believe we all worship a single God, and that we have different takes on it.

Take a man who beats his wife, because he has such authority from his God.

Or the man who kills another man, because his God demands cleansing the land.

Or the man who gives all his money to the Church, which is corrupt, because he believes it is demanded of him, and so he lives on in poverty.

Of course, there are so many people will say, 'Oh, well, I have a personal relationship with God. And my view of God doesn't support those kinds of things.'

Well, that's just the point, isn't it? It's your view of God. It isn't God's view of God. It is a personal, customized version of God that is not an outstanding proof of anything, but represents what you find most suitable, or appropriate, or just.

How do you know that the universe existed before God? Or that God created everything? If God 'came into existence', then why couldn't another God just 'come into existence' in the same manner?

I know no one has the answers, and I'm not saying every or anyone should have the answers, I would just to know that when someone presents their concept of God or the creation of the universe to me, to really be aware that they are basically just making stuff up as they see fit, as they can't prove any of it?

I know that's harsh, but isn't it true? If this were a forum poll, and we had everyone responding about their thought of the creation of the universe, and we got 15 different stories, and no one can prove theirs any more accurate than the rest, isn't it pretty safe to say someone, somewhere, is just relating through story, instead of having reality behind the beliefs they propose they hold?

I think I need a hug here, people. sad

How can you know what others may or not be able to perceive though? If they have additional senses and can thus hear/feel/sense something that they feel is connected to a higher power, how can you say they are making it up, anymore than a dog can hear or smell something we cannot?==== You are speaking of others trying to force some external being upon you. My point is that this is completely internal. That is why I would knock all the books on religion off the shelf and start from scratch. It does not really matter what you believe anyway, so long as you are kind.
caroljoyce
The essence of a spiritual approach as opposed to a religious one is complete self responsibility and lack of blame towards others, including'God'.This is very, very hard to do.Likewise no other being/entity of any description should be able to control you in any way-they certainly try however and it is dangerous. I do not perceive that any higher power/God/spirit from the light would ever attempt to control/lead anybody in any way; free will is always completely respected, no exceptions, ever.
The reason some can perceive 'odd' occurrences is purely due to soul age. Old souls have minds that are genetically set up differently, thus different DNA/RNA patterns may be provable at some point. They have become sick and tired of the physical dimension and wish to return 'home'to all that is light. It is also dependent on one's own willingness to allow it, work at it and put up with the ridicule/attacks of others. Even a youngish soul I would think could learn to perceive if they wished. At present, the veil/mesh between the physical and non physical worlds is thin, thus an epidemic of paranormal interest/phenomenon is occurring.
In terms of proof, I would never claim there is any in the accepted or scientific sense, as yet anyway. There is some research into the pineal gland; this seems very active in those experiencing psychic phenomena. If you do not directly experience phenomena but wish to learn, the only 'evidence' is such things as mediumship (can be dodgy)/channelling and near death experiences. There is a wealth of information collated from all over the world and the odd thing is its strange consistency. If you are curious, the best place to start is to examine the work of a non psychic who investigates psychics. A good place to start is Victor Zammitt, a lawyers case for the afterlife. He has collated a vast amount of data in a reasonably scientific manor. However if you were to believe in this, it still does not prove God.
I am in a similar position to most and would describe myself as a semi-enlightened agnostic.I am able to perceive things that I cannot explain without the existence of a loving creator, yet I still do not know what this is. I can feel'it'and communicate with 'it' at times yet I can only assume it is some kind of energy which we all consist of. This is the real riddle.
I am not interested in arguing/forcing my beliefs/judging anyone. It really does not matter to me what people believe. I do not have any religion. If anyone is genuinely wanting to find out more, I am happy to try and share what I have learned.
I have not read that which you have quoted, I will have a look when I have time,
Best wishes,
carolhelp

I can't see what is wrong with what we believe. I mean you all complain about us causing doom and gloom and crushing peoples hopes. What about ours? What about our beliefs? Let us alone to find our own way and if it's not with your god so be it. This is us and I'm sure now you realised that we like the way we are. We are happy as we are.
Go pray to god or whatever you do, and let us live as we want to live. Just leave us alone. We have no dispute on what you believe and don't want to change you so please respect ours too?? teddybear hug yay

Mr 1234, if, as you imply, you are a being of light, why do you say'I was like you once', as though he has a disease. Does this not imply judgement? That you are 'better'? Nobody is better than anyone else. He has no disease. He is saying, very reasonably, that there is insufficient evidence, which is entirely true. I do not feel that you have offered him any, do you?very mad

hey there royester24, what you say is how it should be and without the threat of eternal anything. there are heaps of poems here about god and angels and whatever, and none of them provoked such an outcry as this one. it seems it's ok to post about your religion but not your lack of it. also can't see any aggro here so not understanding the claim that we agnostics/atheists are always unhappy and bickering! don't religion and politics cause the most rows - so we have 50% less chance of finding topics of non-agreement by removing 50% of the problem...laugh laugh laugh

really good poem BOA, look forward to more...applause

Dear caroljoyce,

I don't regret having written it.

I do regret some of the original wording, which you can see through the commentary, and subsequently have changed that.

I'm rather happy, actually, to see it reach 30, 40, now 48 comments, and also that is has reached, 500, 600, now almost 700 views.

I don't think that I've been excessively harsh in it. I don't smash heavily on religion. I neither exclaim nor persist that there could not possibly be a God- I simply request clear, real facts of the matter.

A lot of people see the down-talk of the way people construct their beliefs, but they ignore that fact that I am seeking something, if it is real, and if it is willing to show itself to me.

I'm hardly at all sad that I shared this with this community, and I'm very heartened to see that, with almost 50 comments now, we haven't had an outright fight or name calling match.

Bravo to you, the audience, for the nature of your participation. applause

nice poem Barell of art, The problem of humanity is that we think we are the most important thing in creation, thus we assume that that eart or the physical world is the most tangible existence, so there for we expect God to approach us and come down to our level thus we fashioned several myths for ourselfs. we can not even get close to sun which is a radiation from the glory of God not to talk of seeing God. because we are man we expect God to be man and because we are woman we expect God to be woman with this we want to make God human so that God can dance to our whim. due to our ignorance we have always tried to create God in our own image. God is above all this and does not intervene directly into our affair because we are just part of God"s radiation just like other creation. Thanks for the poem anyway!

Calmhearts, thank you very kindly.

MY FRIEND YOU ASK FOR 'GOD' TO COMUNICATE WITH YOU, SHOW HIS/HER PRESANCE , NATURE IS THE GOD ON THIS WORLD AND IT COMUNICATES WITH US EVERY DAY BUT WE'VE FORGOTEN HOW TO LISTEN WE NO LONGER SEE THE SIGNS IT'S JUST THAT UNLIKE ISOLATED TRIBS AROUND THE GLOBE MODERN MAN IS OUT OF STEP WITH NATURE . WHY DO YOU THINK IN AINCIENT TIMES MOST PEOPLE WORSHIPED THE ELEMENTS? IT'S BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTOOD THAT NATURE IS THE RULING POWER ON THIS PLANET.
AND UNTILL MODERN MAN EXCEPTS THIS FACT HE WILL ALLWAYS BE AT ODDS WITH THE TRUE GOD OF THIS WORLD, THE ONE THAT CONTROLS THE CYCLE OF LIFE.
MANY GODS ARE WORSHIPED ON OUR WORLD,AND SOME I AM SURE ARE THE PATH TO SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT BUT THAT IS DUE TO THERE TEACHINGS NOT THE WORD OF A DEITY.
CHOSE YOUR OWN PATH THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL HAPPY.
FOR ME IT IS THE CONSTANT BEUTIE THE NATURE GIVES US.
HOPE YOU CAN SEE THE LIGHT AND BE AT PEACE WITH YOUR SELF.
HAVE A HAPPY DAY
RAEL.

Coming to faith in Christ is not a gigantic leap, but rather an evolving faith over a period of time. Many atheists and agnostics don't believe, saying to believers you do not have evidence. They do not have proof either of the nonexistence of God. So let the love of God be, he is the only that can take us away from sin. SM
