jono7: i'm all for honesty, but i don't think brutal honesty is the way to go.
i don't think 'brutal is necessary'.
if it's important enough to say, it's important enough to think about how to say it as well.

i think sometimes 'brutal' honesty is selfish, it's a power trip with self justified meanness...presented as something other. one can provide honesty and clarity without being a bully.

I agree & agree with the thought that "brutal" honesty is an excuse for behaving badly and hurting someone. I see it as the beginning of the end of any relationship as to be brutal so the concern is no longer for the feelings of another but just whatever it takes to get your message across. that is selfish agenda stuff

solitare: I missed that; You are quite right; there is never a good reason to turn into a bully just to make a point and satisfy one's selfish ego at the expense of another; another good example of the adage 'violence is always the last(as well as the first) refuge of the incompetent; be it psychological or physical. Excellent point Jono!
thumbs up

Brutal, no. Fierce honesty..yes. What's the difference? Brutal doesn't take courage. Fierce honesty means being honest event hough it may hurt someone, but sharing in a loving manner.

hawaiihibou: Relationships are what we are here for. Is it good to be brutally honest even if it hurts?

Well I do believe in honesty but one doesn't have to be brutal. There is always a better way of saying things even if we have to be honest.

If someone who I respect has something to say, I’d rather have them fully engaged in their own perception of what it is they want to say, not mutitasking so as to come across more concerned with their own ego driven delivery “style” So, in other words just effin say it.
