BKN59: I'm glad I don't have kids.
I am glad I have kids I bought my kid a Quarter horse when she was 13 she is 32 now and still has him he is retired now on 100 acres hanging out with the kangaroo's lucky boy.
None, i would however see if the kid would like to volunteer at the local SPCA, that way they can be around animals all the time, learn about the responsibilities of caring for an animal and some of the harsh realities of what happens when people stop caring about animals.
Only then, and if the kid is still nagging, i would buy an alligator and feed the kid to it...
montemonte: I would never buy a pet. There are many animals in shelters that need a good home.
I don't know how it works in other countries but here in France it costs a couple hundred dollars to get an animal out of a shelter. Technically you're paying for vaccinations and contributing toward the cost of operating the shelter.
