I`m torn between to places to visit: Paris or Nice in France. On one hand Paris seems to be an obvious choice, but it is so expensive and hectic! On the other hand, Nice offers some beautiful views, mild climate and close location to popular attractions. Need your help, guys!!!
Jillll: That is such a limited choice. Do you only want to meet a Frenchman?
The choice is limited because I`d like to study French while meeting new people They say that France is the most visited country in the world, so I`m sure I`ll meet people from different places.
If your only going to go once, go to Paris. If you plan to visit more or money os a big problem go to nice...I dont think you can really go wrong either way

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the dilemma! I do hope you`re right and it is impossible to go wrong either way
I recommned Paris no dubt being winter. Even in summer i'd lean to paris. Been both places and yes the beach in nice is not nice..lol anyway. Spent 4 days in Paris and it was a real pleasure. And YES you'll meet international folks there. Arcitecture is wonderful, historic and cultural feel. Nice just has a fancy name in my view.
Paris, the city of lights is my first choice for just what you are looking for.

I think as long as you avoid mechilin 3 star restaurants you should be able to keep it budget also in paris. Just find reasonable accommodation u know, cos hotel is the main monay drainer.
It's a big city and more than just high priced tourist traps i guess it's the tourist prices you have heard of, even parisiennes know how to squeeze $ out of tourists. After a few weeks you'll know all about Rene's cafe at the corner with the cheap breakfast and Ali's supermarcado + DOMUS Shop til you drop 100.000 square feet Giant Market with the extra large shopping carts.

Since your goal is to meet people, I´d choose the destination that best reflects who you are as a person.
If you don´t enjoy "city life" making friends with people who thrive on the hectic pace of it could mean mis-matched friends with your personality. Although peaceful laid back "corners" can be found anywhere
Your goal is also to learn French, so be aware in Paris the accent will be closer to any French you might already know or will learn in a course. In the south of France, French people have a fairly heavy "sing song" type of accent which stresses heavily on the end of each word almost adding another syllable.
This opinion from someone who lived in France 20 years and mixed with peeps from all areas, also languages teacher for almost as many years.

Nice is stunning and Paris is romantic, but to meet new people you only have to go to the Beach, people from all walks of life on your doorstep, plus you look like you have the body for enjoying it also
Trying your luck, Can only be Vegas
But if it's love your looking for, the Gibraltar is the place
