iamsimply: What would men do and what do women expect? Please be honest ....
On a first date I would not be impressed if a guy did not offer to pay... being very honest with you.... but no way would I expect a guy to pay for the babysitter.. my child my responsibility... not a good opening line is it in fairness.. having a guy feel a sense of obligation and commitment before he even gets to know you.. You would be surprised at what some men from my country do for women, on first dates.
I'd have to write a book at how different it is there.

Would they do that? fair do... I don't think there is anything wrong with it.. is quite generous.. just wouldn't ask a guy to...

hiya
To be totally honest, the men i know there, will gladly 'propose/suggest' and insist on doing these kinds of 'favours'. I guess the case with this woman is that, she's been spoiled. She should however act like the romans do, while in Rome, so to speak.
imsimply: I asked if she would like to attend a mutual friends wedding and she told me the gentlemen in SA pay for everything and suggested I pick up the tab for the babysitter!
even if what she says is true,
lusciousmile: First of all, regarding the question presented by the Op, i think it's crazy and unfair for that woman to ask of such a 'favour'.
Let me rephrase this: It GALLS me that she should even think it!
lusciousmile: Now, your boss may not do it, but a man taking care of more than a woman's baby sitter's pay, is no big deal in Africa. Remember, things in Africa are done differently. In my country, men generally want to be the providers.
EXACTLY, they do it by choice, and not by rote. If a man should decide to do that, that's fine, it's HIS CHOICE. But what is incredible to me, is that she had the nerve to ask for it!
