I check out proximity to the beach first...then the surrounding accommodation...don't like swimming pools when away, need to be near the sea, its much more relaxed and free so always my first point of call when booking a holiday...

I haven't booked mine yet, but this year it's about family and hopefully some fun in the sun.
I travel quite a bit for work to rather exotic and sometimes rough places, so for holidays I usually go to my favourite island, 5 star hotel, and picturesque town.

Unestly jenny !! Is envirement more important to you then service. OK you can't actually know how is the service before being on the place, but there are so many sites now that give you a picture of how is the service factor. ( trip advisor ).
Personally I prefer the sea being half an hour away, but the service is perfect.
2girlsnocup: There are some fabulous winter breaks, and you'll find that it's better off season as it's not so busy.
Unless you're going skiing, in which case, it will be busy. Skiing in the summer, just doesn't work very well.
No I don't like skiing( can't even go on it ) even though I luv to go on BoB. No I meant seaside holidays, guess I have to find a good deal in tropical places, when the moment comes. I don't think for the next two years.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's BoB?
The south coast of France is still nice in the winter, or you can find good breaks if you're not too fussy where you go if you wait until the last week before deciding. Travel agents practically give them away.

I knew you gonna say that. Didnt know the word in English. In Italian we say BoB ( slighting on snow ). I'm not fussy at all. I'll go wherever there is a good quality/price.
chris27292729: Then IOS island Greece, your ideal destination.
Have booked Puerto Rico for two weeks...Where we are staying is not brilliant persay but don't care, its on ground level which is an advantage for that particular resort...and right by the beach...I did check out a few of the Greek islands and hv been there before to a couple of them but got this particular deal quite cheap so went with it...But love Greek island holidays, have been to Kos, Crete and Rhodes...from the sound of it, IOS is well worth a trip :)

Just a personal view.
Honestly...I like being right by the sea...I see where we are staying as where we put our head down to sleep...I love the ocean, anytime we are off work here and the weather is good, we are out somewhere by the Coast...If I live to retirement it will be out by the sea somewhere I absolutely love it...

It dawned on me as soon as I pressed 'post'. Blonde moment, I apologise.
If you're not fussy, then getting time off and having a look in travel agents and seeing what they have, and if they keep any last min holidays may be worth a shot.

Not for this year, but thx for the tip. When the moment comes I will.
