OK...for myself, I was going to choose silver until I read about Palladium. It's characteristics and the history of its name changed my mind.
Now, I'll tell you why asking here isn't always the best way to figure out something like this: if someone were to insist on giving me a ring now, my choice would be dark green jade set in silver. I've had more than enough diamonds to last me a lifetime, and have learned that love is more important...but that's the age I'm at now, and the point I'm at now. Honestly, I bought plenty of rings that I love after my husband died, including a diamond one, and I have no intention of wearing just one again. I don't need a ring from a man to know he loves me, and he shouldn't need me to wear one to show the world that I'm his.
But, that's just me and the point I am at now.
