VivianLee: I've always been a night owl, struggle to get sleepy before 01h00. Perfect world, I'd be up to 03h00, sleep until 10h00, not an option that works well with the average job.

Any other night owls out there? Any tips?

You too? I thought I was weird. Had this problem all my life, and still do. Tried sleeping pills, nothing.

Finally doc prescribed some psychedelic drugs which works like a charm. A couple of beers before bed also seems to do the trick.laugh

That's the life for me.
Bed at 3
Up at the crack of noon.

But let's say you have do do something mundane like go to work (as opposed to taking LSD).
You need to quiet your mind and body.
A cup of chamomile tea followed by relaxation techniques.
I like the technique where you tense your muscles then relax them very slowly. Start at your toes and work your way upwards.
Focusing on a conscious effort to tense and relax slows the mind.
You may feel like you are falling, but don't be startled.

Be careful with the chamomile. I once got to the point where I felt I couldn't sleep without it.
A little practice, and this can work like a charm.

Yes I can vouch for chamomile tea. What I do recommend is that you do try to go to sleep under its influence and make that a habit if possible...then it will trigger in effectively when needed as you have trained your self that drinking this tea (and tasting its taste) will induce sleep.

Otherwise you may just feel relaxed from drinking it and nothing more.

You can add sugar and it still works. For me I need the sugar to take away the "nettles" taste chamomile tea has.

Harryonline: In my care too I think !

Have you tried what I call a "Split shift" pattered in sleep?

This is where you sleep for, say four hours, and you go about your usual day, then sleep the remainder at another time with in a 24 time frame, so you gewt your full eight hours sleep.

It used to work really well.

I envy with every fibre of my being the people who can sleep at will for an hour or two, then wake up refreshed. I can catnap for 10 minutes, sometimes, but all too often it slips into a real sleep and then I'm groggy and grumpy if I have to wake up. I really must work on that.

That video is terrifying. I've heard the beer before bed one before, my sister swore by it for years - one beer a day, taken at bedtime. She finally decided getting up to pee was counter-productive and stopped. beer I must ask her what she does now.

I used to do an exercise workout every day and was sleeping pretty well, must take control back of my life and start doing that again instead of fretting that there aren't enough hours in the day. Some things need priority! After looking at that video, sleep is heading to the top of the list.

Problem was, I had trouble sleeping when the tea was unavailable.

If it's any consolation, smarter people generally need more less sleep.
Try napping at lunch time.

I'm a night owl. Eventually go to bed @02:00 in the morning, but I do get up early too, max 07:00 7days/7. From taking the bins out to gardening.

A tip : conversation on fb with old and new friends. grin

Good tip, the problem with FB is most of the people I know are in the same time zone and therefore happily snoring when I feel chattiest. Twitter, I can have conversations going all round the world, always someone awake! But then, 140 chars - not much chat in that. 5, 6, tweets, and you're done, most times.

oic, Beh I can't know that. I never use Twitter. Personally I have friends all around the world too including family, and I have contact with them via fb, mostly during late night.
