BritishLondon: A lack of organisation and intellect.

If you give a man a fishing rod and he breaks it up for firewood, what do you do?

If you give a man money and he turns it into an amulet made from human finger bones and gifts it to a grinning warlord, what do you do?

Absolutely nothing at all. Nothing can be done well under today's white people ethics. If Tony Blair and a load of white people have to go into Sierra Leone as last resort to make it work then it is precisely that: last resort. And this will come with an array of wordplay and mental gymnastic to hide the plain truth.

The starving in India are a bit different because they're not surrounded by plenty. You're really pushing the capacity of mother nature to provide in India. To create the conditions of Africa in Africa requires a disorganisational genius.

Also, it would be necessary to bring to the table the causes of the those children's starving situation (all over the world) and focus on what causes their poverty.

There is way more reasons (including lack of food) as to the causes of poverty than that.
Political unrest
Wars
Climate
(if a region has a 9 out 10 probability of having drought, then there is most probably that region will have 9 years without rain...so people should prepare for disaster)
etc..

If you give a man a fishing rod and he breaks it up for firewood, what do you do?
If you give a man money and he turns it into an amulet made from human finger bones and gifts it to a grinning warlord, what do you do?

An example: there was a rural community with a few dozen habitants and the gov made a dam worth millions some years back and the people there are still poor and they are not self-sufficient in producing their own food and to the least to have some items to trade in neighboring communities so, these people got a broken fishing rod already yet someone was benefited with the construction work done.

There is always something than can be done but all the parts involved should take responsibility including the parents of those starving children....

lifeisadream: No matter how "greens" oppose the use of GMO, they are already being used around the world but not even GMO will thrive in arid conditions with little or none rainfall and without the water from other sources.

Famine in Africa and in many other parts of the globe is a complex matter and a result of poverty, corrupt gov, climate, etc..

The biggest problem as I see it is the amount of misleading and false information being spread around the world regarding GM food, until the world fully understands the pros and cons of GM food, it is really hard to know which way is the best way.

We all eat bananas without a second thought, but they are man made, having crossed to different plant species to create the banana we all enjoy. Rice is a staple diet in many Asian countries, it has been modified to allow three crops per year, and no ill effects have yet to be seen.

I can see where there are great benefits to GM produce, but can also see a money making greed that could cause great hardship.

A very difficult choice!

GM crops are being used world wide and there are only very few countries where it is a requirement to state the origen of the food for humans yet it is not the same for the animals food, so the eggs and meat that people eat most probably comes from animals fed GM crops.

Regarding to countries with famine like Africa and some strata of people in many other countries, a good choice is to make a union between their traditions-knowledge for farming with what science has to offer (including GM crops) and get the best that nature can provide but in places where the rain is 100 or 200 mm per year or and that is their only source of water, people there will struggle to meet their needs.

There are other aspects of GM crops to consider.
GM crops can contaminate the gene pool of native crops like corn here.

No, you should know what your doing and where your resources go, to do otherwise is irresponsible. Giving under the conditions you describe would in effect do more harm than good to the very people you were attempting to help.

There are plenty of needs and people that have those needs in your area. If everyone would take a personal approach in their own area and not just send a check the charity would go where it is suppose to and do the good it was meant to. And more importantly, it would go from you to those you help to those who need help near them and spread out over the whole of mankind in the end.

Job is described in the Bible by God as perfect, how did he live?

"I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem. I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
Job 29:12-17

Try doing you best at that and see what happens.

I forgot to tell that bananas and most produce are the result of genetic breeding on the fields (looking for better returns) and the crosses are made are within the same especie yet different "cultivar" (variety) while GM crops are the result of the same but in a speedy way in the lab yet Transgenic crops is the result of combining DNA from a different especie.
