Really? The gentleman in you wouldn't wait or try to find the most civil way, if it wasn't available when you decided to break-up with your girlfriend/love interest?
Coldheaven: Either face to face or on the phone, whichever came about at the time.
But what if things were at a volatile stage, and you thought that the person may become angry? Or what if the person becomes very amorous in an attempt to change your mind. I know of at least one person who attempted a break-up "in person", only to be lured back into the relationship by her boyfriend
She wished she had done it from a distance.
