wexlady41: I completely agree with you. They are doing all the wrong things and they are digging the country into a bigger hole! They need to stop supporting their cronies in the banks and the building sector (not all in the building sector..just the cronies..before anyone jumps down my throat).
The poll is flawed. There are two separate polls at least for most people. Three for those of us who have town councils. How you vote in one is not necessarily how you will vote in the other.
This is the first local election I've had a vote in where I have not had a set in stone party loyalty. So it will be interesting.

Same here scribbler. I have always voted for the same party..as have all my family. This time I wouldn't touch them with a 40 foot pole!!!
I reckon a lot of independents will do well. I have heard so many people say they will not vote for any of the main parties
Kellyseye: how can ple vote finegael and fianna fail when they were taking the medical cards off the elderly???
my lord
Because people are fickle.
Although to be fair I can think of a lot of other reasons why people shouldn't vote for FF or FG.
That said, whatever party you vote for, unless it's one of the very small ones without leinster House representation, you are effectively voting for someone who will in future be propping up either a FF or FG government.
So when voting, you have to think of the particular circumstances in the area you are voting. An individual shinner or Green or labour party candidate may be worth bothering with, so people should vote for them on that basis, rather than thinking that their parties will somehow change things.
As the greens showed when they effectively took down their trousers and gave FF permission to enter at will, all parties are corruptible if they agree to coalition.
The only parties who can avoid it are those that take a principled stand against coalitions with right wing governments. However in our current political climate, that leaves them very isolated politically. It is a bit of a viscious circle.
boredguy: Just wondering what way people are voting
obviously i have my own views.. maybe we can have a few commons and who knows a lively debate even ....and maybe we can leave all this bollix .. he said she said behind us.... so opinions people who are you voting for ?? why .. and why your not voting for the other
well i`ve just gone out and exercised my democratic right! one which i have the luxury of having due to very brave/patriotic men women and children from yrs ago!!
i`ve no finite answer to this post other than to state..
all types of partys and politics suit different economic situations at the time... i.e... ff and capitalists suited a time of prosperity and development.. but perhaps now cash-flow is low ..a share the wealth(whats left) is a prudent choice at the mo??
either way i think there is a certain type for the situiation that we find ourselves in...
perhaps level the playing field for all, get our communitys back.. link up again what we were good at, understanding/help each other/local communitys... we lost that in our individualistic ideas of wealth gains!!
I voted sinn fein because i think there the only party with integrity and the are a socialist party. Ireland needs to move away from boom and bust and create a sustainable economy based on socialist ideology. Fianna fail fine gael labour there all the same it was there policys that created the mess we are in
