ciotog: I think he has misunderstood the history of Sinn Fein from the 1970s to present (hint: the Marxist wing would be those who became the Workers Party)
Actually it is considerably more complicated than that. I was a member of SF for 6 years and got to see the very varied nature of that party.
There were many Marxists in SF even at the time of the split. The split was far more complicated than is being suggested (although obviously it happened years before I was born so I won't pretend to be an expert on it.
There are still Marxists within SF, but there are a huge range of views in the party and the leadership are far from marxists. SF is a very broad coalition. Too much so if you ask me. I still gave them my first preference in the locals, but not in the European. I take their candidates on a case by case basis now.

That's fair enough boy. I totally understand that viewpoint. I was just correcting the misconception that SF as a whole were marxists.
I would just ask people to keep in mind that this is basically a dating and social networking site. If you disagree with the way someone voted, try to be respectful. If you want to argue the toss further,

Cool, was responding very broadly and it's good to hear a more experienced view on it. I'm sure the short term will be quite interesting for SF.

wonder how the count is going? politics is really not my thing! I did vote though, in true Diva style I wandered in, glanced at the candidates and chose the hotties! anyone who made me purr got my no 1 vote
I suspect there will be one around November. Could be wrong but I don't think we will be waiting too long.
Both Fianna Fail and Greens losing in the locals. Rumours are flying about Greens withdrawing from Government so FF will lose their majority in Dail votes.
I reckon they will try to push through more cuts in the next few weeks (including bringing back college fees/cutting grants/cutting welfare) and a budget in October and will fall then.
wexlady41: FG calling a vote of no confidence in the Government on Tuesday. That will be interesting to watch.
Wonder will the Greens find some balls and stand up to Biffo!!!
Greens are power hungry little lapdogs .. doubt they'll be getting it together anytime soon. Kenny's no confidence vote is really badly timed ... would be better to have held out longer before trying to put the boot in.
