I am just having a very quick and late lunch and have microwaved some vegetables mashed potatoes and a pasty out of my freezer.
The pasty is the only thing I didn't cook myself. As I was waiting for the microwave to zap the whole thing I idly read the label of the pasty - it contained 98% of the recommended Maximum daily consumption of saturated fats. 98%! One item ,not a meal and not even a large pasty either. That's about 10 times as unhealthy as several pints of organic beer - which contains live yeasts and minerals and which has a selling price that comprises mainly taxes. Most foods in our country aren't taxed.
If the pasty had contained a health warning - I wouldn't have bought it and if the government chooses to tax such gunk - like it does booze and fags I'll not complain.
So what's your view?
p.s. a pasty (or Cornish pasty or pastie) is a pastry case filled with meat, potato onion and swede. The sell them in the UK and around some parts of the Great Lakes in the USA.

Perhaps it will help lower the climbing obesity rate if it is both taxed heavily and has lots of health warnings?!!! Ditto all fast foods like MacDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc. Before you microwave your next meal (not great to do for starters coz you lose a lot of the nutrients in food) check out the labels. Just as quick and healthier to make a sandwich or even toast a slice of bread and smear it with peanut butter & honey!!!
