GingerBe: Only way is to go solo here. Start your own business, and even then, not the population to sustain a decent living really.
I thought of that too G, however a certain amount of capital needed for that, insurance, equipment, registration, HIQA, advertising blah blah etc etc..and as you say the population spread, demographics not to mention resources people have not got ...wont amount to much of a business plan for our local einsatzgrupenfuhrer,..sorry bank manager..would it?

A friend of mine did the sports physio course later in life and whilst he was working. He would have fairly good contacts in the GAA so initially he started doing physio in a small shop and from home also.
In the last couple of years he's opened a state of the art cryo, (freezing muscles not bodies), clinic in Ennis and seems to be doing pretty well for himself!

True. I trained in holistic and sports massage many moons ago and ran into the same problems. Public liability alone is astronomical, never mind equipment, basic and ongoing, and the others you mentioned.
I consequently never used it as a profession, but people travel from all over the county, on word of mouth, and I don't charge for what I do now, which is more like muscle manipulation. Local football teams send me people too.
No qualification is any good unless you have the environment to sustain a living from it.
