RayfromUSA: Most people haven't really been that affected by the depression to date. All things seem to be continuing as they were.
Nevertheless, there are big unresolved things like deficit spending and a huge national debt and an economy that requires more debt every day just to survive.

So, what's your best bet on the length of the depression?

AS long as you believe the lie your mind is telling you.comfort

The real US debt.

It's not just a few trillion.
Add in the social obligations and it's almost 80 trillion.

Hi Ray, Sorry to say, I dont think their will be an end until all had Demenished... When all Countries Colide, to a point of destruction, I Truely believe this is the beginning of the End....Lord know how long it will last, till it gets to a point of Out of control, way out of control, Self Destruction...

That's the beauty of inflation (from a government viewpoint).
They create debts and they can pay back the full amount just by printing up more money but by the time they do, the money is worth a lot less so they win value in the exchange.

But for loans that they make to others they index the amount to be repaid to inflation. That way the more wasteful they are and the more the currency inflates the more they will be repaid. So they win again.

It worked like that for the US from the 70s until the end of the century.

But by that time everybody was wise to the game and nobody wanted dollars anymore, so the crash could not be avoided any longer.

The only thing keeping the crash from occurring today is that China cannot afford to lose all the investment it has in US dollars.

But they're working on it.

I personally don't believe we are in a depression to be honest. Being on the lower rung of the economic ladder, I am still able to afford the different luxeries in life while keeping food in my mouth. Things may get tight from time - time, but I am able to make ends meet. It may take a minor juggling act at times, but again, I get by just fine day - day.

On a serious note: Congratulations on finding a job...Always a better feeling knowing you are earning what you get in, than having it handed to you

Were you eligible for unemployment? If so, why didn't you take it? Doesn't your boss pay for unemployment insurance in NC? The key word is insurance.
You are a good person.

Well, the DOW went up over 200 points today so I guess the "depression" must be over. laugh Of course that is probably just a post election pop but it is further proof of what a lot of people have been saying, namely that our government has been handed over to corporations with the stroke of a pen by the Supreme Court in their decision to allow corporations to give unlimited money to political candidates in the form of paid ads. Remember most of the money candidates spend goes towards making and airing attack ads. So with the Repubs taking over the house, corporations stocks are going through the roof because they now own half the congress. BTW oil stocks are soaring as you would expect. Kiss renewable energy goodbye.

We agree here ooby dooby.

The information we receive from the media about political issues is really disinformation. Big corporations and the media are partners in crime in scamming the public for their own benefit.
The CFR is the most notable structure involved in that partnership. And it controls both parties through its money strings.

Big business owns the media, and it also owns the political system.
And it really doesn't matter which party is in power. Both parties are in the pockets of the same financiers. So that no matter who wins, the same policies are pursued.

They just have to modify their rhetoric a bit to maintain the illusion of 2 opposing parties representing the entire spectrum of political thought, when in fact the parties are nearly identical twins and they are both corrupted by the same forces whose goal is to rip off the public.

oops forgot to mention.

A rise in the stock market doesn't signal any sort of improvement for the economy. More than anything else it signals inflation.
As the money loses value the price of everything, (including stocks) goes up.

If the economy were genuinely improving there would be a sharp rise in housing starts, the unemployment figures would start to drop. And above all debt would stop increasing. None of that is happening. So any talk of recovery is just disinformation.
