The only way anyone can be diagnosed as to having a mental illness is by a doctor. There are various test done to make a correct dignoses. Some of the different forms of mental illness, initially, have similar symptoms and it can take some time to diagnose correctly the type of mental illness which a person is suffering from. Once diagnosed it is often a matter of trial and error to find the right dose of the medication for each individual.
The only form of mental illness I have studied up on is Bipolar so can only speak of this. As explained to me by a doctor...many sufferers go of the medication when they are feeling well. The medication contains chemicals which are missing in their system. As well they are usually on anti depressants. In bi polar the sufferer can go from extreme highs to extreme lows. The medication levels this out. Looking at it objectively I can understand why some want to go of the medication. As humans we all go through different levels of emotion .........taking their medication doesnt allow this and they just go on the same emotional plane. I guess we would all find that hard to do, yet they need to keep taking the medication to avoid a bi polar episode...catch 22
The sufferers of this dis-ease are usually highly intelligent people and yes they can lead a normal life....depending on the degree of the illness.

As to your question as to telling someone.....I guess each and everyone would like to be accepted and loved....but mental illness still scares a lot of people .... so sufferers find it hard.
I usually hate political threads or violence threads....its a no win situation......for every one.
Hear what your saying Englishman...the same is happening in this country....not so much where S/dippity lives....but here in the bigger cities.
Our government allows so many political ( and I use the word loosely) refugees in to this country....problem is they bring their politics with them.
Most of the people that come from third world countries to here... get in because they have money...not hard earnt money...easy money...drug money...crime money.
They set up here with the help of the government...(stuff Joe blow thats lived here all their lives) we cant even get decent medical care....and continue their reign of terror...through gangs and crime.
They have access to guns....but we have one of the strictest gun laws in the world.......go figure

Ive been on here for 10 months and until the last week never had a photo up.
The most honest friends here that I made were when I had no pic.
Since then people who viewed me more than once over that time....but never flowered or mailed me.......are coming out of the wood work and .." wanna chat".
