The 2 people who turned down these job offers were non nationals who were working cash in hand and claiming social welfare, They were paying no income tax at all, any wonder why they refused the jobs
I'd try not to focus on the negative too much, Nobody is perfect so why would somebody focus on a persons bad points or habits, Poor hygiene can be sorted out with a bottle of shower gel, bad breath with mouthwash, If we were to reject every person we dated because their was something wrong with them then we would end up SINGLE
Yes its part of their plan to cut welfare back every year for the next 5 years, I can see single unemployed people trying to live off 100 euro a week in the not so distant future and the people who will be worst off will be lone parents, they will be hammered altogether, Incidentaly those 2 people who refused jobs at 28k a year were both non nationals who were working on the black economy and claiming benefits every week, I think the real problem lies with the black economy
Even if you were to cut welfare rates to the same level as the UK after taking the cost of living into account that would only make things worse, people would have less money to spend which means more job losses = higher unemployment and a list as long as your arm of the other problems that accompany high unemployment, social problems etc, I would respect your views if there were 500,000 jobs available for the 500,000 people unemployed, cut welfare rates and yes certainly it will make people actively seek work more but they wont get a job because there are very very few jobs out there nowadays
This is the Republic of Ireland not the UK, do you think people on the dole here are swanning around in BMWs and Mercs? no they arent most cant even afford a car and can just about afford rent and basic meals everyday, what would be left over after you paid for your basic needs, maybe 30 or 40 euro and isnt that going to be spent in the locality on goods and services generating employment, cut welfare rates here to that of the UK and things will get a lot worse
Cost of living is considerably higher here in comparison with the UK so maybe when Food, rents and other bills fall into line with that of the UK ,wefare rates here should be adjusted accordingly, I wouldn't begrude a lone parent getting social welfare, dont you think they have a hard enough job as it is trying to raise children, Your not going to get rich off welfare
I would take a job @28k a year no problem, I have little or no responsibilities like children or a mortgage so I could live happily on that, You have to take personal circumstances into account, I'm sure a single mother with 4 children living off welfare would need her head examined if she took a job @28k a year and could you blame here for refusing it
exactly that happened to a lesser extent when we got rid of punt and took euro, we all remarked how less we could purchase with it, Instead of a pound shop its a 2 euro shop, Its the small things that add up, You look at some Eastern bloc countries today, In the ukraine you could have decent savings one day the next day government can devalue the currency so your left with only a fraction of what you should have, The Euro is stable now but for how long, Its a timebomb
Its only a matter ot time before the euro goes bust and when it does anybody who has savings in euro will find that they have been devalued to a fraction of what they should be worth
