Thanks, Mindful. Pretty damn fascinating. It sure explains what I call the "South Dakota Phenomenon" - which often seems to pair babes with average-looking guys.
I'd still like to see the statistics on equal-looking couples (good-looking or not), which this article only mentions in passing...
Detente, I'd say that there is only a marginal correspondence between age and wisdom (except in my case, of course).
Wisdom is basically a function of one's intellectual abilities and one's desire to understand. If you don't have those things, you'll just be spinning your mental wheels into dotage and will likely end up with merely a lot of wrinkles and an incessant hankering for cheap beer.
I'm sympathetic, Uli, but I'm afraid I see a bit of a problem here.
True, China has a miserable human rights record, is heavily into person/thought-control, and is presently unrightfully dispossessing countless individuals in its own version of the US' "urban renewal" for The Games.
However...if we boycott China for these things, then what about the United States, since its government has murdered hundreds of thousands of civilians, illegally tortured and imprisoned individuals, and has sponsored state terrorism around the world?
Canada materially participates in the Iraq war, and if we regard that war as immoral (even in part), then surely we should consider boycotting Canada?
England, with its vastly upgraded Orwellian Surveillance State, probably should be boycotted as well. Germany has its own version of thought-control which in my view should be subject to protest.
What I'm getting at is that while western governments are by and large superior to non-democracies/totalitarian states, we are not really in a good position to morally posture - particularly the US, which is probably the foremost purveyor of hegemonic violence in the world at present.
So, I say if we boycott China, we should also consider some form of protest against the many rights-violating acts of Western governments.
In general, romantic love is far more transitory. That doesn't exhaust the possibilities of love, of course - one can love someone as a friend, for instance.
Lovebird, you obviously haven't read Bush and Cheney's new book, "Our Story," wherein he outlines why it is only reasonable and just that America may take whatever actions it deems appropriate in protecting its various interests.
An especially good explanation for this doctrine is provided in the chapter titled: "Amerika uber alles."
Eye exercises of this type work, in my experience. I've done the reverse, making myself focus on smaller and smaller print to counter my increasing farsightedness. I actually have better near vision now than I did years ago.
Also, Vit C seems to have a beneficial effect on the eyes (which contain a large amount of the stuff).
Good point about the sun's benefits, Healthy. The latest health news suggests that slathering up with sunscreen all the time isn't the healthiest option.
RE: BEAUTIFUL WOMEN MARRY LESS ?
Love your new pics, Mindful!
