Since Dude seems to looking for good US economic news in the thread. I thought I would post some....
Yesterday, instead of doing a fast food lunch...I decided to go to recently opened Cuban restraunt. For $6.41 + tip, I had one of their lunch specials, pulled pork, yellow rice, red beans, pressed garlic, a side dish on a cloth cover table, with shining silverware, and iced water in a long stem VA money to get them into house and apartments. I spoke to him recently asked how things are going.
He says "I had offers on 6 house this last week, and I was able to find mortage money for only 1 of them." He did not say if the was 5 VA program loans or not, but again you get the drift.
So it is a pretty simple equation...with the banks hands tied by the foreign money that bought the FED T-Bills, they can only lend so much in the country. The massive $787b TARP II and the earlier $879b TARP I, should have impacted the US economy by now.
If it did, it should have had more job creation than the 150,000 that is being reported. Instead since Presdient Obama stated goal of 4m job creation, the country has lost another 1.7m jobs (effect of the GM and Crystler bankrupcty).
President Obama can regulate the banking industry till crows fly north and pengiums swim south. But with vast amounts of the stimulus money being earmorked for foreign accounts, that regulation is not going to help.
VP Biden, the man President Obama chose to manage the stimulus packages....said this..."there is some scamming going on" in the programs. If Chinese and other foreign investor lose confidence in the investment that they have made in this country....the recession of the fall of 2009, will seem like a walk in the park that the depression of 2010 or 2011 will be.
President Obama has forgotten who he represents as President of the United States. He set up a stimulus plan that gained vast amounts of foreign investment in the Gov't of the United State (T-Bill investment go to the FED gove't operating budget). But theat is not making main street, only pockets in DC. While his Treasury Sect tells the Chinese...everything is fine. Obama says we are 'broke and in deep defiicts'. Biden says 'scamming' is going on.
By the way...the firm that bought Hummer....is Chinese. Yep, now the people that work for Hummer....will be taking orders from Peking. I remember the Conoco buyout by the Chinese oil firm. GWB blocked the sale.
I papered on why having major US firms owned by the Chinese was a bad thing for their employees...little things like....health insurance programs, retirement benefits, and work safety were all issues to having a American Company run by the Chinese.
Just wondering...does anyone here think that the Chinese would go to war with the US if they lose $787b to the Obama Administration. Maybe we need to hang on to those nucs for a little while longer. Opps....guess I went from good news on the US economy to bad news on the international scene.

Hey, if you like the US so much.....immigrate. We are open to all. Then you get to vote, pay taxes, and make a living here. And yes, share your economic success story with us.
But to sit there in a foreign country, look at a few economic numbers, economic indicators and some American gov't press releases on the US economy.....a economy of 300m people and 1000s of firms.....is not going to tell you the story of the countries economy, those 1000s of American businesses, and the economic vitality of the country.
LOL...I wait and see 'alot' with you, Dude. Eventually push comes to shove and something has to be done. In military affairs....better sometime to take the bull by the horns and just do it. It ain't going to be pretty or eloquent.....but it is done. Saddam is done at this point in man's history.
Note when Saddam was hung......that the Iraq country went peaceful for a time? Everyone sat down for a moment, and said what now? It did heat back up.
In a way, I think that if bin Laden is ever caught or killed...this is likely the same response in the world and in Islam. Everyone will sit back, and ask what now? Then the successor or the successor to his group will assume power....and it starts all over again.
Obviously this conflict is larger than any one man. Hardened ideological positions of both west and east have to be warmed to make a real head way to peace. But when do you do that?
With two army (Iraq and Afghanistan) deployed or when there is that break to bring a sit back and ask what now?
President Obama speech in Egypt is going to give a idea to his thinking on it. If he panders the Muslim street with his words, it indicates one thing. If he stands fast to American reasons (9/11) for these military operations is another.
But here is my thinking......that he glosses over the Pakistan crisis. He might mention it......but even now he has to see it as not one of his finer moments. The majority of the Muslim world wants American humitarian aid in such situations. They may not want US forces, but the aid yes. And he is failing to provide even that.
A lot of people in the US, will listen and watch this speech with a great deal of interest. It is one of those..."I know words are important times for him".
They are also going to watch very carefully how the Muslim world reacts to them. I read one article saying the Muslim world wants 'tangible results' to come from the speech. To each that might mean something different.....but I suspect they mean tangible US dollars. Maybe the Muslim world should have been listening a few weeks ago.....when he said "we are broke".:-)
The Bristish split them because there was bout to be a massive collision of Hindu and Muslem in India. There was great amount of deaths as it was. Imagine if today they still lived intermingled?

Everyone today...honors Gandi....for what he did for India at the time. And his stand for peaceful opposition to England. I never heard or have read where Gandi addressed this problem of Hindu and Muslem in the region.

I just got the really bad feeling that 4 years from now or 8 years from now....if Obama wins a second term....that this stuff is still going to happening in the region. We will still be sitting in Afghanistan...and several 100s of American and NATO force will be dead....and we are not any closer to a resolution or solution.

Hummer don't have a 12 packs....only 6 and 8 packs. But there are areas in the US...where the Hummer is by far the best vehicle for the region.
Many will see a clean Hummer in a city. Think there goes a 'city cowboy' for sure owning a gas drinking monster. But what if the guy just had washed his Hummer off at the car wash after taking it into a remote area?
A person can live in the city but need remote area transportation. In that case, the Hummer is a good dual use vehicle. Most Americans are pretty practical people. They buy what they need and can afford. They try to stay within budgets and be responsible to those around them.
Now if we could get the present American Gov't to understand that concept.
I will say it again. 2.4 million Pakistani in either refugee camps or forced relocation. When Pakistan had its earthquakes in the Northwest Tribal region....GWB was able to get both Helo lifts and emergency aid to them with our military. Even some field hospitals, if I remember correctly. So why are we not supplying such aid now?
Obama cannot get his foot in the door here. Pakistan just released from house arrest the Cleric leader of the LET group that did the Mumbia attack. India by the way is ticked off badly on this. Pakistan gov't said it was lack of evidence. But remember India has one of those attackers in custody. I wonder if they are using waterboarding on him to get more info here. Maybe something a whole lot worse.
If India connects the dots to this Cleric being the mastermind of the Mumbia attack.....Obama and Pakistan have some real problems coming up. Why is Obama in the middle of this?
Pretty simple, Obama is giving Pakistan a free hand to control terrorism in the country. Giving them billions in military aid to do so. Yet at the back door, Pakistan is letting out a mastermind of terrorist attacks? That military aid can be pointed at India just as easily as it can be pointed at the Taliban.
Obama has talked a lot about coalition building. That was the way to take on terrorism. But NATO gives him a pat of the back, 2 F-16 and 5000 to train Afghani police. Pakistan closes the door to him when according to one gov't leader....the country is about to fall to the Taliban and 2.4m fleeing. With billions going into the country, Obama should be able to get boots on the ground. So where is the coalition building here?
And Fallingman, if the Paksitani gov't asks for them to come in....it not an invasion.
Anyone here up for taking Dude into the Alaskan outback? Or into the Montana bush? Or into upper Idaho pan handle for a few days? To show him why vehicles like the Hummers are needed here?

Better yet, Dude can car carvan up there....I will drive my Hummer and he can drive his made for city life car. When his small gas save appliance car gets hung up on a downed tree or rock that bounced into the road or floating in some stream..... me and my Hummer might be of some use to him as well put a tow line to his car.

I hear A GM engineer is going over to see how many solar paenls it takes to run a AC unit. What do you figure Indy? To pay back a $30b gov bailout.....if the average per unit cost of a solar panel AC unit is $250.....with cost at $200 and a profit of $50 per unit. GM would only have to make and sell......60,000,000 solar panel AC units for break even.

They just had a car in Europe lose all four wheels at the same time. On the highway. Our car companies may be going bankrupt...but at least they know you got tighten the lug nuts prior to driving.
The situation GM is in is very complicated and too big to handle here and now and this great effort done by Obama administration is the first right move toward a saving for that important american company.
People right now can not afford to buy cars as before and the years of the Bushney,s were americans were "forced" to beleive they just should borrow and buy and forgetting all about what the Hell was going on in America and in other countries under the influence of the past regim... Those americans who still are buying cars buying small fuel economic cars mainly made in other countries than US which did not allow them selves Deceived by the economichal teories of the Bushney,s and kept producing economical cars you see?
GM needs a lot new regulations and new technology and redirecting their production toward green tecnology and the company can survive I am sure if they really change their metohds of production and cutting fuel usage in their cars and investing and researching more in proudcing Chevy Volt likes or production of super windmills and so on which they really are good at and now the regim is changed and supporting that for sure!
Yes... unfortunatily many jobs will be lost and of course many car dealers are going down because there is no need for having seven cars in an ameircan family and four of them just for "fun" as it was not long time a go in America!
GM is not only producing cars you know TT! If GM begins to make aircondition systems which runs totaly on sun panles for example and selling those in America then hey... not long time from now the company will begin to make money I promise you!

The story comes from Robert McGovern book "All American"
9/11 has happened. McGovern has been at ground zero for 3 days. Fires were still flaming, building still falling, the ruble and debrie had not settled yet. It was dangerous....McGovern said in the book...first time he knew what really being scared was these first days of the 9/11 clean up. He was 35 at the time. Even with info thin on the attack, McGovern has figured out the country is at war.
He is in a military uniform, a Captian. He is working with a group of firemen. They are coming off a work session and headed to the rest area. A guy comes by....says...."Hey, do you want to meet President Bush?" They say "yes". He says "He will be here in a few minutes. Stand over the by the police yellow restriction tape."
They do. A few minutes later, GWB and a his secret service group arrive....he begins to shake hands on the line, thanking the men for their work at ground zero.
GWB comes to McGovern. McGovern, in uniform, renders a salute. But GWB is in civilian dress and just offers his hand. They shake hands, as they do....
McGovern says to President Bush "We are ready, Sir".
President Bush says "I know you are."
They part and GWB moves down the line to shake a couple of more hands. Stops and comes back to McGovern.

I think that I have put together a few dots on why the Stimulus packages to the banks is not getting to main street USA. Banks are not lending to the car companies to aid them. SBA loans are hard to come by. Follow a little.
Yesterday, Fed Treasury Chairman Geither said to a questioning Peking University student asking about the security of the $770b Chinese Investment into the USA (mostly thru T-bills).
Geither replied.."the USA financial institutions are the most deepest and liquid in the world."
Where as President Obama only a couple of weeks ago said..... 'we are out of money. Into deep deficits.'
So what gives? Who is talking straight to the issue of the countries financial liquidity. They both are and they both are talking smoke.
Geither is in reference to the banks that the two TARP financial package went into. Obama is talking about the countries budget, expenses and revenues.
A individual US citizen can buy T-Bill directly from the FED Gov't. But a foreign party or gov't cannot. They don't have the social security number or other numbers for such a transaction. But banks 'bundle' T-Bills and other government financial paper for foreign parties to buy. They act like 'holding companies' in this business, and its is a very legal business activity.
Those socialist Chinese....wanting interest and principle security on their investment in the US. They almost sound like capitalist nation. :-) But Geither's answer had to leave the Chinese student a little confused, in that the US banks were only 8 months ago in a liquity crisis not seen since the great depression.
And here is where both are blowing smoke. The banks were bailed out by the FED gov't...now they have sold billions to the Chinese and other foreign investors in paper....the banks are holding the FED bailout money to cover the interest and secure the principles to these foreign investors. That reduces the amount of FED bailout money for main street America.
Now who is being greedy, Stress? Vinny? Janski? Obama administration is double dipping the well some. They tell foreign investors...all is well in the US. They tell US citizens we are bankrupt. In the mean time, GM and Crystler cannot get bank loans or bailouts to keep going.
And if the FED fails to make pay on the paper, guess who owns the US banks?
Also remember when Barry Franks said 'we need to reconsider what money is." The FED Gov't under Obama is shifting to financial paper (e.g. T-Bills and other paper), from real estate based economy. Is what I think.
Well if you gotten this far in this lengthy post. Now consider the $6000b in the global diarivites market that the banks have made. That the Obama administration now wants to regulate the speculation in this market.
My thinking is this here. The Obama administration sees this massive market as competition to its FED paper markets. Best way to restrict a market and gain competitive advantage.....regulate it.
Just kidding Dude. Trying to get the UN to gang up on Pres. A and Prem. Kim is likely a bad idea. Not fair when someone big gangs up on the little guy. That old Iraq and USA thingee....where the underdog should not be picked on.
It is not like the EU walked out on Pres. A the last time he had a meeting with them. Or that Prem Kim is so well liked in the Asian region, that no one gives his country any financial credits.

But his words earlier, cost the city and state some 400 conventions and unknown number of high rollers trying to stay within the Obama rules that are coming from DC.
