Most of the people that I know have been visually attracted to the men they have developed relationships with. May I just add that many have lasted over 40 years. Only a few that I know have developed relationships which started as purely friendships.
If one is approached by someone without a photo and they pique an interest with their mail........then you obviously read the profile and should it prove interesting..you take it a step further. Firstly, I would require cam and if they are not palatable then I would not go much further down the line. So they have wasted time by not posting a photo. For me, this is exactly the same as meeting someone in a social environment, either you are attracted to them or not by sight, then you proceed with dialogue and if that holds your interest..........onwards and upwards.
