In it is normal to work 12 hours a day 7 days a week, for American based firms. Sometimes the days are far long hitting 18 hrs. So yes I agree Americans are overworked and anybody who works for them.
I called in work once and told them I was having a mental health day. When asked about this I said I needed to feel more at one with myself as I was feeling off the beam on that particular day.
