You guys are right. For me, right now, there's just no getting over the one I love. I'm just going to stay home, drink, and kill zombies on the big screen.
The only guarantee is maturity about matters of love, really. If someone is following only emotions, then there's no chance of anything lasting. When love is viewed more as something you choose to do instead of something that "just happens" then people stay together and keep loving each other as long as they choose to do so.
Emotions wax and wane like phases of the moon throughout any good, healthy relationship. People change over time, and real love is strong enough to change with them. True love doesn't save up problems and use them as an excuse to leave. It talks about problems until they're resolved, never giving up.
So I guess the answer to the OP's question for both genders is their willingness to do whatever it takes to work through problems.
As much as I agree that talking in a singles thread about politics doesn't seem to do much, it's still better than pretending an issue doesn't exist. Your reply makes me think back to some books I read a long time ago:
"The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy has a few things to say on the subject of towels.
A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have. Partly it has great practical value — you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindboggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you — daft as a bush, but very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough."
Unfortunately, governments aren't as daft as the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal.
If the love of my life decides to call and invite me up, I'll be there. If not, I'll probably go sit out in the cold all day and drink myself to oblivion.
I try to only voice strong opinions on things I've actually studied extensively. People who voice their opinions on everything tend to look pretty foolish when it becomes obvious they've not done enough research to justify their beliefs.
Everyone looks in the wrong place for the cause and the solution to the gap between rich and poor. The middle class gets lazy or complacent and self destructs every time a middle class exists for too long a time. This has been the case throughout human history and will continue to be so until people focus on this lesson in high school.
They blame big business, big banking, and multinational corporations for the problem, and they look to government for the solution. That's like blaming a mosquito for draining your blood and complaining to your mother about it when you should be moving your hand to swat it yourself.
They take out loans and purchase things they can't afford, effectively paying the banks for the luxury of instant gratification. These same people ignore the fact that every purchase they make with their debit card or credit card pays big banking a fee that's calculated into the price of the product. what, you expected big business to absorb the fees the banks charge them? lol.
Also, if you look in the homes of most people complaining, you won't find a single product produced by a local small business. Instead, you see products manufactured by big businesses who have a much higher profit margin and re-invest little or nothing in their local economy.
Government can do things with taxation and regulation, but those things are paid for by the people who pay taxes. When businesses get taxed more, they just raise prices to cover it. What, did you think big business would absorb the cost of increased taxes? lol again. With regulation and enforcement, the costs are more directly passed on to the consumer by paying for all the salaries of the regulators and policy administrators.
No, the only true solution is for we as individuals to change buying habits and start small businesses of our own. That means paying more for products we are used to getting on the cheap from the big businesses, voting for policies that reduce taxation and regulation on small businesses, paying cash instead of involving banks in every transaction, and doing things that are downright inconvenient and take effort. Fact is, most people willingly surrender their power because they're too lazy to do what is needed to keep it.
True Love isn't a Noun, but a Verb instead. It's not something people can have; they can only do it, because true love is about giving without expecting anything in return and being greatful when something is received without feeling indebted. Eliminate expectation and disappointment will vanish. Love without expecting to be loved, and you'll appreciate the love that's returned even more. Of course, I need to take my own advice sometimes.
Should I go on the blind date described below?
Now that I think of it, why wait until Monday?Being self employed has benefits. I'm taking the rest of the week off.
