I googled the Dolomite Ranges, the photos are breathtaking... And there are so many ways to hike on them. That has to be a once in a lifetime opportunity, Merri.
I also googled 'chamois'... never having realised that it was not simply the name of the cloth. They are adorable.
The places you have been to, seen, experienced... are once in a lifetime places, Merri. I am envious of your travels.
Thank you so much for your thoughts, and for sharing a few of your memories.
I had to google... They look breathtaking, Merri. Oh yes, it was definitely the walk...couldn't be vertigo! Geez, men... they should have known you needed someone to carry you on a stretcher bed while you are fanned... you know, in the manner you are accustomed to.
I can't imagine you being a sook, that was quite a trek you made.
Because a penguin still has adventures. The bird simply suits me more, mostly because it doesn't fly. I am terrified of heights...so much so that I had a panic attack on the edge of the Grand Canyon years ago. I had to learn to breath through the fear.
Last year I did Skyrail in Cairns...and that is scary, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. Cataract Gorge in Tasmania is scarier still and I have done that. I guess you have to go out and just think, " I will only die once, I might as well do it spectacularly".
Thank you, I am rather stoked that I finally decided where to go. I haven't really had anything jump out at me. I went to a travel expo in Melbourne last week, and got the brochure on this trip.
Yes, Merri... Knowing my luck, there would be a real gent... manners, intelligence, height ...and he would only be 93...
This is the very first time I have done a tour too, I probably should be nervous, but I am not. I have already paid the single supplement so I don't share with a stranger. Mostly because they weren't willing to send me photos of strangers I had an option with... I was going to opt for someone who sounded like Sean Connery, looked like Hugh Jackman and was hung like Donkey ( from the movie Shrek)....but that's the way of life.
Cream cakes for breakfast? Hmmmm... Now that is interesting, although the croissants sound more appealing. I hear the food is to die for in France.
Thank you, Jem. I have to stop myself from counting the days, but fortunately I have a heap to get through between now and then... and lots of micro trips locally. So I should be distracted enough until October.
You make Brussels sound so enticing, Merri. I really must look into it.
I have a friend who is near New York...(Not from CS... I don't chat too much here) I am debating whether to extend the trip and catch up with him for a few days...thus the reason I haven't paid for the flights. I will pay for them on Wednesday afternoon, after I have ironed out the details. The trip I have chosen has lots of guided tours...so it's a very busy trip and it's with a group. I am probably the only one traveling alone. lol
Part of my renovations this year was to have another couple of TV's installed into my home. One on the kitchen wall, one in the rumpus. Because everyone knows a single person needs three viewing areas! However, the one in the kitchen has a white frame...and I have put a chip into it so I can view my photos from trips as a slide show when I am entertaining. It's the reason I put the TV in there... like a moving picture show...
I do have a friend that does the same though, he invites me over for drinkies and we look at his trip... I usually get smashed and I have to go back and watch them again.
I have heard some amazing things about Brussels... I think you should start saving pennies, Merri...and you can be my personal tour guide next year when I go to Europe.
I still haven't time to think about what I have done. I called my Travel Agent last Wednesday and I paid today. I haven't been well this week... had the flu, so it's not like I have given myself time to think.
Thank you, Merri. I really enjoy getting to do the things that I thought I would only ever dream about.
500 photos?! Damn, I thought I was being overly zealous coming back with 200 when I went to Texas! ( I bought a new camera before Texas, it took me another two trips before I learned how it worked. lol)
From the little I have read about you, Merri... you have traveled though...to places I am yet to see.
Your modesty is noted. I have finished renovations for the year this year now. Just finished last week. However, I do renovations every year... so just toss me your business card.
Alaska is breathtaking, but that's not on my short list of places to go to. Next year, Europe... if things go right. It always depends on how my renovations go early in the year. You know how tradesmen are??
Your aunt sounds like a delightful lady... I am very sorry your mystery was not solved.
