Lifesavers

I'll tell you what, I'll keep the jokes coming if you keep it warm and sunny. Deal???

RE: compulsion

What a good question. I'm not so much into it but I know people who are. Shoot, I never did figure out how to program my VCR and now we have DVDs. Maybe that's why we do it. It get's easier and easier..

RE: INCONVENIENT TRUTH....(GLOBAL WARMING)

There's a new item today talking about scientists in Russia predicting the cycle of global cooling to take place beginning in the next 7 years. Kinda keeps in line with past patterns of warming and cooling.

Too many people with their own agendas making all the predictions. I have doubts that they are as much concerned about the worlds future as they are in making a buck or two. Being environmentally friendly is one thing but operating from fear is another

Lifesavers

Thanks Wed, I'll do a bit every week until I run out. Cheers

Thanks Marti, How are things in Malta? I'll be back there next week. Can't wait, it's been a long trip and I'm ready to unpack and get back to normal.

RE: Does this seem odd to anyone out there?...

I guess it's true that no other steel framed skyscraper has ever collapsed due to fire but then again none have ever been hit by commercial airliners or had two very tall buildings collapse next to them.

I wonder why it's so easy for others to accept the word of people who offer only conjecture. I wonder how those demolition experts were able to wire those buildings for destruction without anyone ever noticing? I wonder why the federal government would ever do such a thing? I wonder how they would have gotten away with it or why no one has come forward with a legitimate piece of evidence. I wonder why the conspiracy didn't go away once the film of the pentagon was released. I wonder why if this were so true no one is being or has been prosicuted?

The people professing these conspiracy's are doing nothing more than making a mint on their web sites. If the thing had any validity what-so-ever it would have been brought to the surface by a legitimate, investigative journalist or some other investigative branch.

Well, that's all I got. I need to get started on an idea for my own conspiracy based web site. Maybe there will be a disaster involving the loss of thousands of innocent lives so I can make myself rich.

Maybe sooo. It was at least both honest and funny

RE: Iran....

Best post on this thread... rolling on the floor laughing

Lifesavers

A college professor was doing a study, testing the senses of first graders, by using a bowl of Lifesavers.

He gave all the children the same kind of Lifesavers, one at a time, and asked them to identify them by colour and flavour.

The children began:

"Red............cherry,"
"Yellow.........lemon,"
"Green...........lime,"
"Orange........orange."

Finally the professor gave them all a HONEY-flavoured Lifesaver.

After eating them, none of the children could identify the taste.

"Well," he said, "I'll give you all a clue. It's what your mother may sometimes call your father."

One little girl looked up in horror, spat out her Lifesaver, and yelled, "Oh My God! Spit them out everyone. They're arseholes!"

RE: We are e-mailing, but he gives no messages about the future!

Shimmy, Your question "if a man keeps up steadily a communication is genuinely interested, or could it be just playing the role of "Mr. Charming" and nothing more???".

That's really tough and you're just going to have to decide. It's difficult enough to take a risk with someone local but to unroot and travel to another country and have to worry about finding a job, etc... will take a lot of faith and trust. Do you have enough clues for that? I really don't know and I don't know your personal situation i.e. financial, emotional etc... So I can offer no other advice other than to be careful.

I really wish you luck. You seem to be a really nice person and like most people, deserve to find happiness.

RE: We are e-mailing, but he gives no messages about the future!

That's a tough problem but I'm sure you'll figure out what to do when the time comes.

You mentioned that you like each other and if he's the one you want to be with then it would probably be worth the effort and/or risk to persue it further. Of course the oppoisite is also true.

I wish you luck..

RE: Bush wasn't happy just killing our kids overseas

You're right, I just believe differently and don't believe in spending too much time on these types of theories so I wont do any additional research. I appreciate your beliefs and wish you luck. Take care

RE: Bush wasn't happy just killing our kids overseas

I did as I promised and it was what I thought. Sorry, I just don't buy into the whole conspiracy 911 thing and don't think to highly of the credibility of those who profess it. As I have said on other threads When the President can't get a little one on one with Monica within the confines of the oval office without the whole world finding out about it, how can we expect anyone to complete a massive incident like 911 without something leaking out. There would nhave had to be at least hundreads involved, yet not a peep in over 5 years.. I would have thought these would have all gone away once the photos were released from that gas station near the pentagon but no, the story was simply adjusted to a "Bush knew about the attacks" kind of conspiracy.

RE: Bush wasn't happy just killing our kids overseas

I never said you didn't do the research, I questioned your use of those sources. Sources quoted by you and qualified by you earlier as being those who sling a lot of BS, More importantly, the stuff they say was untrue and there\s no proof, just accusations.

Yes, I did my reserach but I choose to use several instead of relying on people with political or other such agendas.

For the sake of arguement I'll look at Jim Mars' expose but if it's the same conspiracy theory junk spounted by the others then it's value would be about the same.

RE: THE BOOM OUTSIDE BAGHDAD

Well, once again I'm sorry you feel that way.

I would have thought the similarities between the former Soviet Union and Iraq would have been striking. Even so, here's an article excerpt on the subject

The US Role in Iraq's Sectarian Violence

by Stephen Zunes
The sectarian violence that has swept across Iraq following last month's terrorist bombing of the Golden Mosque in Samara is yet another example of the tragic consequences of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. Until the 2003 U.S. invasion and occupation, Iraq had maintained a long-standing history of secularism and a strong national identity among its Arab population despite its sectarian differences.

Not only has the United States failed to bring a functional democracy to Iraq, neither U.S. forces nor the U.S.-backed Iraqi government in Baghdad have been able to provide the Iraqi people with basic security. This has led many ordinary citizens to turn to extremist sectarian groups for protection, further undermining the Bush administration's insistence that American forces must remain in Iraq in order to prevent a civil war.

This is very close to how things were in the former USSR and I think it states quite clearly why the violence is going on now and why there has been so much violence in the former USSR

As far as the other religeons calling for or preaching of death goes, I'm sure all those dead Muslims from Bosnia would disagree, as would the Jews from the Holocost and if we really look back a ways we can talk about the crusades. Christians, Jews and other religeons aren't above the same behavior and have recently proved as much. What's going on there is extreemism not Islam which is exactly what happened in the aforementions examples

If you compare the text of the Bible and the Quaran (Sp) you will find very similar passages that discuss violence. Does this mean that we teach the same stuff but don't act on it. One can take almost any passage in either book and interpret it to their own desires or belief system. That's why there are so many denominations of the Christain religeon

I would say that most Muslims instead of some are civilized and you're right, sometimes you can't tell a terrorist from an ordinary person. But that's true with every terrorist organization. You simply can't tell which is why they are so effective. I suppose we could start profiling them but that's really not right either.

I have a great, unbiased book back in Malta which very clearly shows the relationships and stats of different terrorists groups and will be happy to share that with you when I get back. What I can remember is that from the early 1980s thru 2001 terrorist acts from Muslim groups were lower than others. I believe the acts against US have polarized them but they were not the the biggest group, they were simply attacking us and we focus on them.

Have a good day

RE: Bush wasn't happy just killing our kids overseas

I never said one thing or another about the cost to the medical system because of Illegal Immigrants. We were talking about healtcare cuts proposed by President Bush's budget

RE: A poem I wrote

This is great!! Thanks for sharing it.

RE: Everyone seems so sombre

Bobby, You definately have some talent. Great stuff!!

RE: Iran....

I think most people have some pretty interesting things to say but sometimes the emotion bug bites and then it all goes to hell. Most of what people write are what they truely believe to be facts based on their own knowledge and/or feelings. They may be different and some are flat out wrong but that doesn't make anyone stupid. To his credit, Mitch has been pretty good about not getting into the gutter in retaliation of some of the attacks. Like I said before, I don't agree with everything he says but he does keep it pretty clean.

This one has actually stayed pretty mellow considering the subject matter.

RE: Iran....

I know, he was just comparing the other persons to some of Mitchell's posts.

RE: I am....

Sorry for your loss.

RE: Bush wasn't happy just killing our kids overseas

Earlier in this post you mentioned that that people like "Alex Jones & Jeff Rense sling a lot of BS" Couldn't agree more and I wonder why anyone would believe anything they have to say without trying to verify it. I would say most if not all of their crap is just that, crap.

For example, they state "Prescott Bush adopted George H.W.Bush who was born George Herbert Walker,in Austria the son of Nikoli Tesla's Book keeeper" The fact is that Prescott Bush was married to Dorothy Walker (The daughter of George Herbert Walker) They had 5 children Prescott Jr, George HW, Jonathan, William and Nancy. Now if you're source is right then there was a hell of a lot of importing of Austrian children. Of course they say that paper were falsified but offer no proof. Same theme throughout..

I could go on to trash the fabricated bio they laid out for Bush family tree but I think you get my point. I'm certain there are some rays of truth in there somewhere and it would be nice if these creative artists would stick to the facts rather than create fantasy. I've read all the Harry Potter Books and their much more entertaining and believable than anything these guys will ever produce.

RE: Iran....

Ditto, except for the Mitchell part. I think Mitch is OK. Don't always agree with his views but he keeps it pretty clean.

RE: the difference between a democrat and a republican

Perhaps you misunderstood what I wrote. I'm not writing either for or against republicans or democrats or any other party for that matter. Bush, Clinton and all have accomplished somethings but those are all minimized by the constant badgering and finger pointing.
We have become a people that thrive on the negative because it's easy to be insulting and find fault but it requires a great deal more effort to work together and find solutions that can work for everyone.

RE: Bush wasn't happy just killing our kids overseas

I thought your thread was about health care.

Of course the border issue will come up in the election too. Should be really interesting to see what's being said versus where past votes have gone to control the borders.

I mean that for all parties. Too many people say one thing to get people charged up and do the opposite.

RE: THE BOOM OUTSIDE BAGHDAD

I'm not sure where you're getting your version of what Islam is about but it certainly is not what you describe. That is a radical view/interpretation of Islam. As I stated before, when I was there they didn't care what religeon I was, they just didn't want me cramming my beliefs down their throats. They retuned the favor by not cramming theirs down mine. I know plenty of Muslims in the US and throughout Europe that treat me no differently than they treat others. Can you seriously believe that all Muslims believe others are unacceptable? And so what if it's true that they believe their religeon is right and all others are wrong. Isn't that the same thing the Christians, Jews and others profess.

As far as letting the Genie out of the bottle goes, you're wrong. If you would give it some thought you would probably come to the conclusion that Iraq's sectarian radicals were kept in check by Saddam's regime. When we removed Saddam, we indeed released the Genie from the bottle. The reason for going in and whether they should clean up their own mess is relatively moot at this point because right or wrong that's the crap were dealing with today and yes we are the ones responsible.

If you can't see any similarities between whats going on there and the end of the Soviet Union then you probably have never heard of any of the terrorist activities going on in Russia, Chechnia, Georgia or the war between Azerbaijan & Armania just to name a few. There's plenty happening and it started right after the Soviet Union disolved. There, like in Iraq, peoples from all religeons and races were controlled or united depending on how one views it. Of course once it ended and people weren't under someones control the same old racial, religeous and other issues rushed to the surface and we have people over there blowing each other up and starting wars. The big difference is that the news is focused on Iraq & Afghanistan.
It's easy to understand how some may think the idea of terrorism is limited to a particular region, people or religeon but the fact is it's not.
