Twice, besides the normal, when my daughter was born, etc. Both were from my first (and only) love. We used to get eachother gifts for every month we were together for almost the entire eight years we were together, but our third month together, he bought me a clock. Knowing that I love frogs, he took the clear cover off of the face, and put frog stickers and spelled my name on the face of it. I still have that clock, although it doesn't work any longer. The other was the 6th month we were together. He had the students who did the morning announcements play my favorite song at the time (Sloan - Coax Me) over the PA. He then had them say, "That was to (me) from (him) and he loves you with all his heart. SHMILY."

I will never forget how those two things made me feel

If it were a really good friend, like someone I can share anything with, I would ask them what was up. If I thought it was obvious they didn't want to hang out so much without them saying anything, and it was a casual friend, I'd let it be.
