He's a tycoon accustomed to the level of executive control which in government would be dictatorial. These checks on power are not what he's used to, this doesn't necessarily mean he will be a dictator.

If Trump decides to take on one or more of the major powerful threats out there then you might see the state of emergency. For people in western consumer democracies to become great probably would require a massive repression of liberty and their natural tendencies. Not that any old repression will do, only repression at the hands of all the right people.

I'd argue that the entire New World is this way(apart from Canada). Just look at South America for gangs and gangsterism. The new world had and still has a distinct problem with making its societies gel.

Basically America is a land of gangs and they all think like gangsters and gang members(#NOTALL). Diversity is gangland territory. That's why there's no gun control. If mass immigration continues here in Europe we'll lose what makes the NHS possible and what makes a peaceful and genial life without guns everywhere.

Essentially nobody comes to have enough in common across society in order to establish a civil society. Trust breaks down and dignity goes out the window and what you're left with is a vibrantly disgraceful mess of tribespeople(modern Americans).

My theory is that America is a land of kinship bonds and not a nation-state and civic society. Being a land of immigrants they are a collection of rival clan/tribes - you're so much more related to your little group than you are to your fellow countrymen and this means that altruism is much more intensely focused at your small group rather than spread widely across the nation as a whole.

And so the argument that gun onwership is killing so many Americans as a whole loses to the kinship-bond of "I need this gun to defend my clan". They can't get a proper healthcare service going for the same reason: they're not able to relate to the nation as a whole but in reality only to the tribal faction they belong. Diversity and the melting pot make the broader civic sense of fellowship impossible. America is essentially a nation of strangers held together by self-interest and factional allegiance ad this is why gun control and healthcare doesn't work. The argument that gun onwership is killing so many Americans loses to the "I like shooting guns" - appetite and self-desire overwhelm any sense of doing the right thing for the country.

Trump doesn't want to resist any of the powerful foreigners, we can see that in how his ban is humiliatingly based on Obama's work which crucially exempts the rich, powerful and most dangerous Arabs. Business is business. But at least it'll keep out some of the feral.

If Trump triggers a Chinese ecomomic liberalism then China will grow in areas you would call underdeveloped today, but this is the easy bit and they would plateau at a level far lower than if they trigger reforms in 10-15 years time. China nows this. For example this is will be the difference between a China with a 300 million strong middle class and one with a 500 million strong middle class. Unlike people in the West(post-1980s)China does know how to build and maintain a strong middle class.

China still wants to capture as much catch-up growth as possible, there are hundred of billions of peasants in China and they will distort and extract our economy for as long as they can possibly get away with it. They don't really want to liberalise - or only in certain areas where the frontier has been reached - liberalising is the easy bit; as easy as spending the money you already have. They don't want the slack off, rest on their laurels and imports until the rest of the world takes over - .i.e they don't want to be Reagan, they want to seize the means of production(only for the nation rather than the proletariat).

There really is very little difference between those who want no law and those who put themselves above the law. It's the same spoilt brat personality just one is a weak position and the other strong.
