RE: Which language would you love to learn??

Well there now theres a great idea for a get together I never went to the Gaeltacht as a kid and have always wanted to go, do they have weeks away for adults as well. That would be a great session.

CS as Gaelge maybe we should have a thread in Irish.conversing

I was in Galway last October and was sad to learn that the Irish language will be a thing in the past with in the next generation.

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

A Reunited Ireland is a far off pipe dream id agree with you there but the majority wouldnt want to rejoin with ireland i think because of the better social services of brittain and because there is so many loyalist up there too. As a democracy we cannot and should not ignore there wishes because reguardless of who own what land they have been there for many generations and are intitled to be ruled by who they choose.

In response to the 'As a democracy we cannot and should not ignore the wishes'. It had always been the wishes of the Irish people to be free from occupation from Britain, it was promised. And like all politicians promises, they never turn out to be true. And if we live in a democracy why do not the European politicians accept 'our wishes' that we said no to the Lisbon Treaty.

To share the wealth with the citizens of the country ? I thought they did that every year in the Budget. Im not sure what you want here a nice cheque in the post ? The money is distributed to take care of the needs of the majority. Of course id like to see everyone taken care of but theres only so much money to burn and the needs of the many....well that democracy for you.

In response to 'so much money to burn', the spending taxes of the government in Ireland is beyond disbelief, what sort of idiot pays €300 million on a computer system that does not work. The 'P-Pars' computer system failed miserably, but you can't throw out a good idea lets fix it our selves at another cost of a €100 million. Any CEO found of incompetence would have been fired, the Irish people do not have the luxury to fire the minister. The government certainly know how to run the health service.
Another system that does not work, 'The electronic voting system'. The government spends over €360.000 per annum to keep it stored while they figure out a way to get it to work and then implement it. This is a lot of money to be spending when people are in need of housing. Poverty should not exist in a country that is one of the richest in Europe, but it does. Yes those unfortunate to be in that position of poverty have to make do with what is made available to them. I could also put this in response to the Education system, we are all equal, isn't every child entitled to their education? I think they are.

Corruption is ripe throughout Europe mostly by politicians.....oh yeah they are the guys and gals that make promises and run our countries. No offense but it's time to take control back while you still have a country to live in.

James Connolly was executed in Ireland for standing up for the right of the Irish people to govern there own country. His 'Work and Social policies' were to radical. Thats strange, his policies are now being implemented by corporates and multi nationlas, why did they not listen then.

I can argue till the cows come home, so I've said enough.

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

The Commission and Publications office have this great service. Its called POST. You ring them up ant they post you whatever publication you ask them for.

What we did receive was a small booklet explaining what would be changed in the constitution.
If a decision has to be made by the Irish people and voted on why then didn't they just post it to every one anyway. What are they hiding from?

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

Are you saying those in the South, West and North would have to travel to Dublin to read it?

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

The first thing I would say to the government would be to re-unite the island. No chance.
The second is to share the wealth of the country with it's people who with out them they would not make so much money in taxes. No chance
It's not that i feel the government control my life, they control everyones lives in Ireland. We simply do as we are told.
I would love to change the health system which I have to say is just about third world standards. Now one of the wealthiest countries in Europe this is unacceptable.
I would love to change the education system so children can express who and what they are and what they want to be. The education system as it stands only prospers those who have the skills and ability in the area of what they teach academically. It is an unfair system. Children who do not make Junior or leaving are left to their own devices. Each child is unique and should be fostered to meet their talents and abilities, not what the department of education has set as the norm.
I would also change the 2 tier law system that is also in place. There should only be one law for everyone. If politicians are corrupt they should be brought before the courts like every one else who breaks the law. But no, they have their own system with dealing with corruption. No chance of changing that.
Would the government listen? Some how I do not think so.
If I want to change anything in Ireland I have to get thousands of signatures to produce to the politicians and then they may or may not act. If we accept the Lisbon treaty you will now need millions of signatures and again only if they want to act on it. What chance have I of changing anything? None, why? the status quo remains the same.

As for Mr dev you can google to see if you can find anything.

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

It's strange, we have to get our information from a dating site to learn about the Lisbon treaty?
I'm not a lawyer either, but do you not think that every one in Ireland should of got a copy of the treaty so we could make our own informed decision?

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

You got that wrong, we do not control our country, the government do and you have absolutely no say in what they do.
The very reason we have been in such a state is because of out side interference from other countries.
The so called 'Irish constitution' was written by a foreigner, a Cuban, pass in Westminster before it was put to the Irish people.

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

Please can you tell me exactly what is in the treaty. It has been reported that it is too difficult to understand. It was stated about the Mastrict (not sure how it's spelt but you know what I mean) that it it would take about 40 to 50 lawyers about 3 years to decipher it. We have continued on now to the Lisbon treaty which politicians in Europe have stated it's too difficult to understand. How on earth are they going to implement it if no one s knows what sin it. So far you are the first person to state they know.

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

Would you really sign a contract without knowing what was in it?

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

You cannot be serious
wow!

It must be a joke .... Im just cannot believe someone would think that...you are joking right ???

What is exactly wrong with the Irish people running their own country?dunno confused

RE: Should Ireland pull out of the EU after what Sarkozy remarks?

The Irish people should pull out of the EU, we are quite capable of running our country our selves. Simply, give the land back to the Irish people and let us grow our own food. Since joining the EEC our society has gone down hill rapidly and has disintegrated our heritage and communities. Village post offices have been closed down all to suit the EU and the politicians who apparently run this country. The list goes on.

For EU politicians to say we have to vote again is saying we do not have a choice we have to accept. The leading political party in Ireland arrogantly thought that the Irish people would say yes. You can tell by the way they handled their campaign to promote the 'Lisbon Treaty'. I was always asked to read any agreement before I signed any contract so I could understand what was actually in it. We are being asked to sign with out knowing what the treaty contains and seeing as the European politicians do not understand it them selves I will not accept the 'Lisbon Treaty' until I fully understand what I am signing.

Should religion be taken out of schools?

The State acknowledges that the homage of public worship is due to Almighty God. It shall hold His Name in reverence, and shall respect and honour religion.

We still do not know who almighty god is. God has not made it self available for us to recognize. So how can homage be paid to something we do not know for certain exists.
As for the people of Ireland accepting religion, the mosque in Clonskeagh was refused the right to carry out their religious customs by not allowing them to 'Call to prayer from the minuet' other wise planning permission would not of been granted.

Should religion be taken out of schools?

It's the page before the the constitution starts. I haven't seen the web site so I can't answer that.

Should religion be taken out of schools?

If it was taken out what was replaced by it?

Should religion be taken out of schools?

The last time I read the constitution in a public library about 2 years ago it was in it.

Should religion be taken out of schools?

my view is that religion is something that happens inside someone's head. if they externalize it and use it as a basis for effecting change on the world then its politics. i therefore regard the catholic church, church of england, judaism, islam etc etc as political and economic organizations... indulgence anyone ?

Very well put Emigre.professor

Should religion be taken out of schools?

I would be very interested to know how and what was taught for religion in your days at school.

I unfortunately had to live with the catholic church. Trust me, I wouldn't recommend it to any one.

Should religion be taken out of schools?

I have to agree crotalus. thumbs up

Should religion be taken out of schools?

Then all religions should be taught in school so children can make an informed decision about what religion they want to believe in or not believe, why should one religion have the monopoly in Irish schools when there are so many claiming to be the true religion of god. Again a belief system with no concrete facts or evidence to prove a god even exists every one should have a choice. Teaching one religion in schools gives favor to that religion, this is not a choice for those who are being taught.

Should religion be taken out of schools?

As religion is based on a belief system rather than fact, should it be banned from education?

RE: Spiritual, not Religious. What does this mean to you?

We are spiritual beings having a human experience, not human beings trying to have a spiritual experience.

RE: Spiritual, not Religious. What does this mean to you?

It's very simple: Religion is for those who are scared of going to hell and spiritualism is for people who have been there.

Spiritualism is being in touch with your self and religion is doing what other people want you to believe.

RE: Dose Age matter when it comes to love?

I think age does matter in relationships but when it comes to love you have to be mature when the person is much younger. I would be happy with a few years younger or older.
