Jack smith has been appointed as Special Counsel in the investigation of Jan 6 and the the investigation of the obstruction of justice at Mari-Lago concerning stolen classified documents. The fact that AG Merrick Garland has recused himself allows for an outside counsel to indict and prosecute without the influence of political motivation. It is also a clear indication that there will be indictments and prosecutions from these investigations. There would be no reason to appoint a special prosecutor to dismiss the cases.
