Just thought I would let people know that there is a chat room. Don't know how many people come into it and say I didn't know this place had a chat. I was one, also took me a month to realize this! Come join the family.
Best precaution i've found is Deepfreeze. Deepfreeze makes a image of your hard drive, and everytime the computer is rebooted it's reset to the original image. So any virus is only there as long as the computer is not rebooted.
The amount of processes you see depends on how much is enabled by default in your windows, and the amount of programs you are running, virus scanners, messengers, browsers. Anything you are running shows in the task manager.
Windows was built to be easy to use for an average user. So basically out of the box most services are already enabled so an average user does not need to configure anything. A search on the net can tell you what most stuff is for and tons of stuff can be disabled through control panel/administration/services.
