I think you did your best trying to keep peace, seems to me he may still have feelings. I would file the papers cut it Puff so he realizes its friends only you want to be with him. If possible maybe try to let him know your plans and I would if the children are old enough let them know whats going on and that you and him both still care and love them very much and that will never change.
I would want to meet within a month after phone talk and mail communication , after that I would meet for a while to really get to know the person in person face to face. Then if it seems what you both want go for it.
I'll take someone that is not a cheater, liar , and is himself, any day if he has these qualities he will posses all the above everyone is different and shines equally in someone else's eyes.

I just read this reply tell you i wouldn't be the one to tell her it may come out later about how he asked you but she'll find out what hes doing without you telling her. Really not sure she'll care she is doing same, but when it comes to friends it might hit her between the eyes and wake her up. Some don't know what to say at first. I take a card,or flower with a HI, as a kind gesture and will reply with a TY and or few words. Its sometimes a starting point for some.
Wow sorry this really happened to you, I know its got to be hard seeing either one of them, but hes a dog and her she also has no respect for herself or him. Sounds like it could really ruin a friendship, that you thought was good. SORRY
