RE: Martin McGuinness for president

Wheres that from? The Provo fact book? Gerry McCabe nor his partner never drew their weapons. The garda car was rammed by a white van first. The sunday world front page photo showed his body still with a seat belt on. Gerry McCabe was murdered in cold blood by IRA/ Sinn Fein.

All I want is you - U2

RE: without naming names

Well as a poor paleface I see any "mailbox full" warnings mumbling

RE: Who or what killed CS?

Thats a very good point. It can, however, be quite disheartening to have posts ignored or not referenced after putting your input into a topic. I have been on and off here for about a year, and see some newbies post, be ignored, and I take it leave. Sometimes some of the regulars are taken apart by what amounts to a pack mentality just because they have a different point of view.

RE: does this site work?

I think the site CAN work, although it would be helpful if people knew what they want. Date, relationship, friendship. I think as well there is an air of detachment as its the faceless net talking at the start rather than face to face with another human being. Still, no effort, defo no results.

RE: change you

Snap. I would say this

RE: cant stand people who...

Cant stand people who are false and change themselves just to please others.

RE: Hello :)

Did you read the OP? She explained why she didnt post her own pic. Thats a nice welcome for someone. And people wonder why the forums are less active.

RE: Reality tv?

I think its turned into the different people playing up for the cameras now as they chase "stardom" and they want to be remembered when the show finishes. I watched the first Big Brother and thought it was good tv. Nasty Nick had me tuning in everyday. Even at that stage though the contestants started to play for the camera. By the third series, I gave up as it was plain to see editing and people hungry for fame made it something else. If its not scripted by screen writers, it is now by the contestants.

RE: Fix me

I think its a good profile to be honest. Gives us fellas plenty to pick up nad chat about. Your interests, plans, funny side too. I think its an honest profile, and I for one like it.

RE: Regrets

There is an old saying though, "its better to have love and lost, than never loved at all"... But...
The problem with looking back on a past relationship is, how does the other person feel? Say your ex has fully moved on, well then it really is a no-go thing looking to go back. If you ever did try and get back together, your current friendship could be the price the OP has to pay.

RE: who's here tonight?

They throw insults and low blows so so fat at each other. Some very bad digs about religions, beliefs ect. And not just from palefaces trolls. Its like watching pitbulls to be honest.

RE: who's here tonight?

Im having a read of the international Forums sitting here at home. Man, they can be vicious on there!!

RE: Regrets

Its a tough subject. But you broke up for a reason. Your lucky you have something good left from it (the friendship), but that suggests you both have moved on. People like to look back on relationships with fond memories, we hide the hurt and pain, and focus on the good. What did Friel say in Philadelphia Here I come?
"Time distills memories until all thats left is precious precious gold"

RE: I'm back again, lol

Welcome back Pantoking!
And snap as I am just back myself after some time away :) .

There is info up aboutup coming meets on the main page, and there are threads about them to on the forums.

RE: The Other September 11th

Hi Scrib,

Glad to see you back posting again.

Two points to make in all of this from myself. First up is in my book Pinochet is as bad as modern day Iran. Both are dictators dressed up as some kind of democratic leaders. Thousands died and were/are persecuted in Chile under Pinochet and today in Iran. Fact is we could not be critical of either regime if we lived there. Living in the west grants us the freedom to freely and constructively critise our leaders. You dont have that luxury in Iran today.

Second off nuclear states today? Definitely USA, Russia, France, UK, Israel, India, Pakistan, China. Countries with the ability to build one on very short notice- Japan, Canada, Germany. Countries actively trying to build- Iran, North Korea.

In an ideal democratic world I would agree NO country should have any. But this world is far from ideal. And I for one am glad the western democracies, with safeguards, hold nuclear weapons that they have stated are a retaliation only option. We cant say that about Iran, North Korea or Israel.

Fact is an Iranian pre emptive nuclear strike on Israel with affect everyone of us. Even if that war doesnt spread, everybody will feel its effects. Religious nuts with nukes? No thanks.

RE: Flowers

If I got a flower with some kind of message, I would reply. Flowers can be a nice way to break the ice a little. Its hard to tell how much to write on the first email, balancing too brief to too long.

RE: should they have kids?

The unfortunate reality is many times social services wont make the hard call and take kids off unsuitable parents. They listen to every excuse from wasters who know if they lose the kids, they lose out on benefits. I knew a junkie that had so many final chances with social. She knew when to clean up her act just to get social off her back. In a few weeks, back to normal. Very cynical.

RE: What's the Point?

Hi Scriobhneoir,

I know we have our differences on the Hiroshima thread, but I just wanted to say something. I read the Murphy thread for most of the day, but refrained from posting because I felt it was a very emotive topic that would lead to polar differences of opinions. I think you got caught in the middle of what was happening. Although I hold opinions different to yours on many topics, the discussion wouldnt be the same without your contributions.

RE: Remember Hiroshima

Ok, lets have a look at each point one by one Scrib, and deal with facts because your ranting at this stage is pathetic.

The Vietnam War. Was under way before American involvement and continued after they left. Fair to say it escalted due to US presence.
The Korean War. Started by north Korea. South defended by UN troops (composed mainly by US troops).
The Bay of Pigs Invasion. US supported Cubans who were opposed to Castros rule. US didnt start anti-Castro groups, but did fund them.
Nicaragua, Chile, Venezuela, you are correct on.
Illegal war in Iraq? Sorry, no. First war was a UN resolution after invasion of Kuait. Second war US had a UN mandate (although they used false info to convince UN), so although the means of getting the mandate was false, the actual mandate itself was not.
Last point on Palestine, thats one mess in the middle east. Personally I would say it all stems from the British re mapping the area after World War one without taking local ethnic divisions into consideration. Also I doubt Israel would change much if cut off from US funding.

So your rather simplistic take that the US is at fault for all the worlds ills doesnt wash.

RE: Remember Hiroshima

Oh its genocide now? Since when? Move your goalposts, re write your history, blank the challengers, ignore facts. Thats what you do. Goodbye sir, it was asking too much to debate a difficult and emotional subject. I have wasted enough time on you today.

Estimated US casualties are "millions for Allied casualties and tens of millions for Japanese casualties". Fact. Not lefty fiction. Fact backed up by research.

RE: Remember Hiroshima

Done with you. Just hide away from anyone that debates or challenges you. Go back under your rock.

RE: Remember Hiroshima

Seriously, your posts last night have no historical truth or fact behind them. Get your facts straight. Japan wasnt talking peace. Where is your source or research for that? What do you think would have happened if the US didnt drop the bomb? Do you think Japan would have sued for peace anyway? On what grounds? Do you think Stalin would have held back from his planned invasion of western Europe in 1947 if he didnt know about US atomic weapons? Would Europe have been able to defend itself in 1947 against Soviet Russia? So yes I seriously believe dropping an atomic bomb not only helped end tyranny, but actually stopped it from spreading further.

RE: Remember Hiroshima

Three words Scriobhneoir.

Kettle. Pot. Black.

RE: Remember Hiroshima

You say you want a debate and continually throw childish remarks at Blip last night, davpk10 today. Yet when I challenge your take on things you shy away from debate. Why? Your lefty handbook out of ideas? Oh and to balance it, if you were a right wing nutter I would challenge you just the same. This is my last post on the topic, unless you actually do wish to debate rather than running shy from me, or just bad mouthing others.

RE: Remember Hiroshima

Amazing how you have completely ignored what I directed straight to you Scriobhneoir in my earlier posts. I guess your not interested in facts at all.

Least we forget Bataan (US deaths), The Ponary massacres (Polish deaths), The Bleiburg massacres (British ignored civilians and let Russians execute them) or The Katyn Forest massacre ("Uncle Joe" gets even with the Polish). But then your too warped and foccused on blaming the US for all the evil that happened.

Your exactly like those right wing Tea Party fascits. You have a warped take on things and force your opinion on others while shying away and ignoring someone who can actually take the middle ground and has facts, learning and education to back up their points in a debate.

RE: attention

It could be. Depends on how deep the cracks go, as in if it needs the whole lid section replaced or just the outer layer of the screen. Might cost from 135 to 400 euro depending on how deep the crack has gone.

RE: attention

It can be dave, but might be expensive. Best place is in Eyre street, few doors up from McSwiggans. The lcd screen sounds cracked.

RE: The Bad Cover Version Thread

All time worst cover Tatu covering The Smiths classic "How Soon is Now". Runner up is The all saints doing "under the bridge" by RHCP. Manufactured rubbish.
