I long ago stopped using this site as an actual dating site. For me it is now purely a forum. I stopped posting a few months ago, primarily because I had projects I wanted to work on that I felt the time spent on this site was distracting me from. Then I got bored and came back, I have never taken this site seriously, it is purely for fun. But what is fun about recent goings on in this site?

I have strong politics, I always have, I'm never ashamed of my views. People can say what they like about me. However, today I possibly lost a college friend because of my views being totally misinterpreted. I feel that the Larry Murphy thread has become a George Bush style "You're either with us or you're with the rapists" thread. No one arguing against media sensationalism (which is all we were condemning by the way) was given a fair chance to defend our points. I'm totally disillusioned with it. I am for the first time, going to delete all my photos, I will temporarily at least hide my profile. I may come back, sure I have before, but between Fake profiles and now threads like these, I don't think there is any fun left in this site anymore.

dunno

I'm really pissed off with the way CS is going now. moping

its human nature we all act high and mighty as if we are the at the top but in reality we are all primitive we only want our views to be seen and no one elses no one seems to stop and think that two brains are better than one rather than conflict each other in there views people should just share in a mannerly order ion which we could gain alot but is this going to happen??? never

i accept how you see politics and wont put it against you man even if its 100% diffrent from mine

No offence, but maybe that is what is wrong with CS?- too many people here who are using it 'purely as a forum'dunno
there are plenty of places that are designed to be just that- so why choose to use what is supposed to be a dating site, as a regular forum?.

I agree scriobs. Anyone making those points or the fact that there are hundreds of convicted rapists on the street and too concentrate on one was a nonsense was also vilified. Terrible, emotional arguments to be honest... sigh

Hi Scriobhneoir,

I know we have our differences on the Hiroshima thread, but I just wanted to say something. I read the Murphy thread for most of the day, but refrained from posting because I felt it was a very emotive topic that would lead to polar differences of opinions. I think you got caught in the middle of what was happening. Although I hold opinions different to yours on many topics, the discussion wouldnt be the same without your contributions.

i dont mean any offence either and Im not having a go at you scriob but when I have left a website becuase I didnt like what was happening there.... i just left... i often see these posts giving a long explanation of why someone is leaving and telling everyone what they are doing wrong and i wonder why people do that.....

I'm not saying this is your reason scriob but I cant help wondering if it is so other people will ask the author to stay

I don't see the harm in it really. Yes it starts out as a dating site, but for a lot of us there just simply aren't that many people that are viable dates. Anyone I have been interested in would consider me either too young, too short, too far away or all three, but at least the forum can be a bit of fun. (At times)

I get your point though.

I totally take your point Rosii, I'm not going to completely leave this site, but I am frustrated with it and I think we all have a right to rant at these things.

scriobhneoir: It's not based on one thread alone to be fair. I probably will just hide my profile for a while, come back intermittently. I have gone before for different reasons, boredom was always the reason that brought me back. I'm sure boredom will bring me back again.

You are right about this forum not possibly being the right place to discuss certain things.

As someone who's come and gone over the past few years myself, my observations...

Hiding your profile is like leaving a bar just cuz of one horrible person in it. It doesn't really solve things and leaves you feeling more annoyed.

If you decide to just take a break from the forums, those of us who have been here for a while, and we'll welcome you back with open arms when you feel ready to return.

Ok, technically this is supposed to be a dating site, but for some of us, it's also an extension of our social lives, mixing and talking to people we wouldn't otherwise have contact with.

Hope you decide to stick around.

I think people are taking some threads and posts personally and too seriouly ... if someone wants to remove their profile or decides to stop posting well thats their choice and cant be blamed on anyone else JMO

Thanks to all. I'll take a break for a while anyway, I'm sure I'll be back intermittently, maybe more regularly when I feel things have calmed down. The number of obviously fake profiles on here these days is just ridiculous. Of course I need to finish ranting here first before I hide the profile.laugh
