An extract from a poem by Gaius Catullus

And let us love,
And let us value the gossip
Of dour old men
As being worth all of one penny.
The sun sets and the sun rises:
And when our brief light sets
Once and for all,
We must sleep for a never-ending night
So therefore give me a thousand kisses,
A hundred, and a thousand more.
And then a second hundred
And give me yet another hundred.
You and I will mix the kisses up in such a fashion
That we will not know,
And so that evil ones may not bewitch us
By knowing how many kisses we have shared
