RE: It's time to get a new spouse when...

It's a good traditional view thumbs up
however, there is always room on the road for the two to walk together without either leading, just knowing the direction they are traveling together.

RE: Everyone is in Debt !!

In today's world I think that we turn to our "experts" to understand how to predict what is good for us as individuals.

If we can read and think, we can figure out what is best for us - I say don't listen to the experts to tell you what to do, just listen to them as to what they do with their own life - then figure it out for yourself - however start reading the better news reports - they dull boring types not the sensational news types -

I am reading the autobiography of Alan Greenspan, The Age of Turbulence and in It's his story. He said his first reading material was a fat technical book called Sourcebook on Atomic Energy - he also read a lot of the transportation and shipping manifests - of course his reading was extensive as he has a PH.D in economics -

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out your own way to get out of debt or in debt - you just need to be able to read and think and keep an open mind and be honest with yourself about what it really "costs" you to live.

A Fairy Song

Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire!
I do wander everywhere,
Swifter than the moon's sphere;
And I serve the Fairy Queen,
To dew her orbs upon the green;
The cowslips tall her pensioners be;
In their gold coats spots you see;
Those be rubies, fairy favours;
In those freckles live their savours;
I must go seek some dewdrops here,
And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear.

RE: Scottish Independence, Yay or Nay??

It is a very exciting time for Scotland and I think a time of great uncertainty.

I have always thought of Scotland as an independent country and one that I just LOVE!

I think the folk there have a real concern about the future economic outlook - it is like any divorce when it comes to the untangling of finances - often it appears not to be good for two that were united - because who gets the children, the house, the pets.... there is a cost to the one that has to raise the children- however in the long run - especially with the spirit and the ingenuity of the Scottish people it will mean greater properity and no longer can the English be blamed for any decisions moving forward.

Which ever way it goes, I am all in favor of what the majority of the Scottish folk want - I say eitherway, I still LOVE Scotland, the country, the people, the culture, the music, the history, the traditions, the landscape.... all of it.

I would love to come and rent and live in Scotland for spring and summer and invite my yet unknown sweetie to winter with me in Miami - and maybe a month or two in Canada.

RE: Hunting

It goes to show that if you can't come up with a logical response to a debatable issue like hunting - your only argument has been to insult the people posting their opinion.

Whose's colors are showing through?

Thanks! I'll put your opinion exactly where it belongs.....blah blah blah

RE: Prison Inmate Conjugal Visits

RE: Everyone is in Debt !!

it is an interesting that debt increased with the invention of derivative economics.
excerpt from the webpage dictionary:

A derivative is a financial contract which derives its value from the performance of another entity such as an asset, index, or interest rate, called the "underlying". Derivatives are one of the three main categories of financial instruments, the other two being equities (i.e. stocks) and debt (i.e. bonds and mortgages). Derivatives include a variety of financial contracts, including futures, forwards, swaps, options, and variations of these such as caps, floors, collars, and credit default swaps. Most derivatives are traded over-the-counter (off-exchange) or on an exchange such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, while most insurance contracts have developed into a separate industry.
Many money managers use derivatives for a variety of purposes, such as hedging--by taking a position in a derivative, losses on portfolio holdings may be minimized or offset by profits on the derivative. Likewise, derivatives can be used to gain quicker and more efficient access to markets; for example, it may be easier and quicker to purchase an S & P 500 futures contract than to invest in the underlying securities.

RE: Hunting

It was part of the debate - because you said that the Inuit hunted for survival and it was a tradition and a way of living.

I said that cannibals also did the same thing, it was part of their heritage to hunt and kills humans as a way of survival, and tradition. So that the argument that the Inuits had the right was not necessarily a valid reason because one way was ok and the other not.

That was the point I was trying to make -

RE: Hunting

then you must experience a lot of impatience at yourself.

RE: Hunting

I did not suggest it - that is perhaps what you think is the only solution to move the Inuit's off their land. It was never even on my radar of things the government could do.

there are whole towns and communities in northern Canada that take the tourists out on large siteseeing tours of the polar bears -

the Inuit have many traditions that are rich in art and a way of life -

What I was saying is that there are still cannibals whose way of survival is to hunt and kill and eat humans...... so that should still be acceptable?

RE: Hunting

My opinion means like anyone else on this forum - and yet a understand a little bit about northern living - I was born and raised in Canada. I have family that are trappers by trade in the Yukon. I heard and read a lot about our Canadian governments disgraceful historical treatment of the native populations from Cree, Blackfoot, Inuit, Metis etc -

No handouts are not the answer - however that is not the current philosophy used by the Canadian government in supporting businesses, or education for the nomadic tribes - but to suggest I do the research and try again... well those words just burn my butt! frustrated

You do your homework or clean out your ears or rub your eyes when you read what I said - that just because it is a way of life, to hunt for survival is more of an excuse now than a justification for a way of life. the artic can support more than just hunting as a way of life for those nomadic tribes - without a government handout.

RE: Hunting

No zoos are there to raise money to help with various issues dear to animal conservationists hearts - it takes a lot of money to properly manage a zoo - you won't find "big business" in a zoo - they are not "cash cows"

Some of the zoos still have jailed or caged the animal - some have created excellent habitats that would be the same as in their natural environment - including putting web cameras in so that they can be observed while not bothered.

It is always a serious endeavor to weight the control and care of wild animals -

Zoos are a necessary function in our society. Reserves are better perhaps - We humans have a responsibility not only to each other but in our care of the animals

RE: Hunting

good question - because most Canadians now go to the grocery store to get their meat -

I am just taking a philosophical view not a personal feeling view on this whole hunting thing.

The debate would be on one site - pro hunting of the inuit and eskimo folk because it is a way of life and survival - their traditions -

on the con side of hunting - folk need to change - and whole ways of life and survival must change for humans -

So yes Canada has the ability and certainly does take care of her people - look what happened to the Dukabours in the 1900s in Canada. Or how disrespectful to the Chinese men who built the Canadian railroads - or how much alcoholism and despair is present on the Indian reservations for the "natives" .....

country governments have to weight out the changes in human behavior with the ways things are moving in the future.

Not that I have an answer just an opinion and I am saying I am not too sure that just because it is a way of life and survival for a population that it is more an excuse not a justification.

RE: Hunting

handshake Opinions and sharing is important and why I like the forums.

I guess I was also trying to say that I don't think that indigenous folks should necessary be considered any better because they are trying to keep their traditions intact. Regarding the inuit and seal hunting in the northern regions.

Why I mentioned the cannibals of central and south america. Should they still be allowed to keep to their hunting habits just because it has been part of their heritage and way of life? wow

RE: Political Correctness

Is it ok? I don't think so - however, it can be dangerous to the individual to speak against those that spout hate - you have to pick your battles.

RE: Hunting

So true you don't have to live in a country to know what is going on there - however, on the other hand, I think (me included) get so involved in what other countries are doing wrong in an issue we care about that we don't look in our own back yards. UK does not have a stellar record when it comes to hunting....

The seal issue is a terrible issue - and I don't believe that an indigenous population is all that better in respecting animals that any other person in the community. there are still headhunters in the Amazon and New Ginea...

RE: Hunting

excerpt from the web based dictionary.

Roadkill cuisine is preparing and eating roadkill, animals hit by vehicles and found along roads.
It is a practice engaged in by a small subculture in the United States, Southern Canada, the United Kingdom and other Western countries as well as in other parts of the world. It is also a subject of humor and urban legend.

Large animals including deer, moose, bear and elk are frequently struck in some parts of the United States, as well as smaller animals such as armadillos, raccoons, skunks and birds. Fresh kill is preferred and worms are a concern, so the kill is typically well cooked. Advantages of the roadkill diet, apart from its low cost, are that the animals that roadkill scavengers eat are naturally high in vitamins and proteins with lean meat and little saturated fat, and generally free of additives and drugs.
Almost 1.5 million deer are hit by vehicles each year in the US. If the animal is not obviously suffering from disease, the meat is no different from that obtained by hunting. The practice of eating roadkill is legal, and even encouraged in some jurisdictions, while it is tightly controlled or restricted in other areas. Roadkill eating is considered unglamorous and mocked in pop culture, as it is often associated with stereotypes of rednecks and uncouth persons.

The scream came, not from Jarred's mom, but rather from this busty lusty redhead. It was a scream of delight. For as she nestled in her warm comfy bed, she discovered she wasn't alone - for her pet pooch had disobeyed her command to stay, and off. Normally she did not like anyone or any animal to disobey her.

It was cold out and a warm furry animal might keep her from feeling the lonely chill of the blue skied night.
